Traditional knife manufacturers list

I've been trying to figure out who is still actively making traditional knives. I know some of the big obvious names like Buck and Case but some of the others I'm confused what is a company that owns a company that uses a different name to market this different brand... Like is GEC the parent with Tidioute under them? Is Schatt and Morgan their own company actually grinding steel or are they made by someone else?

If anyone wants to add or make corrections, I'd appreciate it.

Bear and Son - Moore Maker?
Boker
Buck
Case
Cooper Cutlery - Schatt and Morgan
Cold Steel
GEC - Tidioute, Northfield, GEC Farm and Field, Schrade Fire and Ice Northwoods Maher & Grosh Hess Knives (at least the blades), Tuna Valley Cutlery?
Kershaw
Queen
Rough Ryder
Rosecraft
Schrade - Uncle Henry, Old Timer

I'm not sure if this is part of your question/list, but some knife companies make their own knives, some contract the work to other domestic manufacturers, and some have the work done overseas.

Boker and Buck have product lines made in Germany and USA respectively, and other product lines made in China.

Schrade (as far as I know) and Rough Ryder are made in factories in China.

Right now I'm trying to list the parent company and then after them any brands they make in house but add someone else's name.

Trying not to let this become a spreadsheet because that feels like work instead of hobby. As global as some brands get I'm not sure I want to list several countries after all the brands.

GEC manufactures several lines and limited runs under various brand names, many of which belong to brands which are long gone. The big ones that come to mind are:

- Great Eastern Cutlery;
- Northfield;
- Tidioute; and
- GEC Farm and Field.

I know they have done limited runs under other brand names or made knives for other brands. I cannot remember all of them, but I recall some being labeled as:

- Schrade Fire and Ice;
- Northwoods;
- Maher & Grosh; and
- Hess Knives (at least the blades).

Didn't they also make branded knives for Tuna Valley Cutlery?

Fair enough. 👍

I don't remember how recently, but I've seen electrician style knives marked Klein Tools. In the olden days they were made by Camillus.
A quick web search later, and I see some marked Kutmaster, which is a Utica brand.

When queen was still around, queen made their own queen line and schatt and morgan was the fancier tier. Now that Cooper cutlery bought the equipment and the trademarks, i guess theyre using them as they wish.

Moore Maker knives used to be made by Queen Cutlery. I suspect that Bear and Son make them now.

I put Queen on the list only because a year or two ago I bought a couple of new Queen knives that were listed as made in USA. But I don't know if it's a new company or someone just bought the name.
Also, ea42 ea42 formerly of Canal Street has gone into business for himself as a one man band as Albers with production of small batches of traditionals
At least for now I'm not listing small businesses. But I can see making a different list later.

I was looking up Moore Maker a while back and kept seeing they make the tools but not the knives. But I will add their name with a ? after Bear and Son for now.

I think you can add Utica Cutlery to your list.

The company has continuously manufactured pocket knives since 1910. In 1918, fixed blade kitchen cutlery was added. During World War II, the company manufactured bayonets and carbine parts and earned Utica™ the coveted Army-Navy E., as well as a number of other awards.

Today, Utica Manufactures and imports a wide range of pocket knives which include lock backs, slip joints, liner locks, one hand opening and automatic knives as well as fixed bladed knives and multi-purpose tools. Utica holds patents on several multi-purpose tools which are manufactured in Utica, New York. In addition to folding knives a wide array of cutlery items and cutlery block sets are offered. Utica Cutlery Company services the Sporting Goods, Housewares, Hardware, Industrial and Advertising Specialty Industries. A number of products are manufactured in Upstate New York under private label arrangements for a wide range of customers.

Utica Cutlery Company is a third generation family owned and run company and it is proud to celebrate over a century of manufacturing quality cutlery in upstate New York.

The Schrade, Northwoods, Maher & Grosh, Hess Knives and Tuna Valley, among others, are contract knives, made for the folks who own those brands.
They are not part of GEC.
