Traditional knives and Stones.

You're right. Plenty of sharpening talk over in the "Maintenance, Tinkering, and Embellishment sub-forum.

I know it. I enjoy traditional sharpening and knives so I thought this would fit in here.

I won’t fib, I was kinda hoping for a traditional knife and stone pictures thread to take root.

I really have to get to trying to use a stone more. All I ever use is one of those Lansky turn boxes and it can take FOREVER sometimes.

It’s not hard at all, just takes practice. Practice on a cheap knife so you don’t scratch your good blades up.

Use the stone a while and check to see if your angles are the same in each side and if not, adjust one sides angle as needed.

It sure has a nice feel to use a traditional stone to sharpen a traditional knife.

Change thread title to ‘traditionals and stones’ and I bet it works. I’m traveling and don’t have a stone with me or I’d join you.
Thanks. I didn’t know I could change the title once it was posted.

An interesting Remington knife, gifted to me by Jakeywax31 Jakeywax31 , thanks Paul! It’s hefty, you could brain a bear with it then skin him. Am considering using it for deer this year. Stuff like this is neat to me. I enjoy trying new patterns and using knives that aren’t common off the shelf items.

It appears to take a keen edge. I like 440A stainless. It’s my favorite stainless of all I’ve tried.

I have much admiration for hand stone sharpening. No frills, no fancy bevel polish, no mechanically perfect bevels. I’m always tempted to re teach myself hand sharpening and hang up the guided rod systems. I only carry a hand stone when I’m on a pack or hunting trip, but I need to get back to good old fashioned knife sharpening.

There is a lot of satisfaction to using traditional sharpening methods.
