Posting the picture of the 66 today with an old Coleman lantern got me thinking a bit. I did a search and couldn’t find a photo thread with traditional knives and vintage camping gear, so here goes. Let’s see some photos of just that, traditional knives we know. Vintage or traditional camping gear may be up to interpretation, but let’s try to think nostalgic. An old Colman, Optimus, Svea stove. Old pack boards, packs, axes, tents…whatever you’ve got collecting dust or have used in the past. Be interesting to see what shows up from our overseas friends.

Here‘s that red single mantle lantern again. It’s just barely younger than me, being manufactured in 1970.

If you consider lying under a poncho/groundsheet in a muddy, frozen, shell scrape on a training area on Soltau West Germany camping.

Then here is my compo can opener (still the best) and a issued in my time (but not mine) clasp knife built like a tank.

The awl is from my personally issued knife I removed it and filed down the back to make it lighter/easier in the pocket, that knife is long gone.

I found it in one of my tin of bits along with old car and motorcycle keys,French grenade pull rings from my time with their Commandos,a shell casing, football boot studs spanners, old Sheffield pen knife,a tin of old foreign coins etc.etc.

All treasure

Sorry for no pic with knife but one of my fave surplus combos that goes well with old knives: Soviet Russian veshmeshok rucksack with Soviet Romanian plash palatka nuclear fallout tarp that also works as stalker hobbit cape.

A pal gave me one a few months back, but I haven't used it yet :) Perhaps we need a Traditional Knives and military surplus thread! :D

Love using this old kit. I have some innovative tents from Ultimate Equipment / Phoenix and a load of Egyptian cotton f10's. My fave is a lovely old cotton giant A frame Relum tent from commie era Czech.
An old friend of mine, Hamish Hamilton, designed the Vango Force 10 Ed. Folks used to think the orange colour was for safety reasons, but Hamish chose it so that the interior had a romantic glow when the sun was setting :) By coincidence, his wife was my kids' favourite infant school teacher :)
