Splendid, just splendid ! Possibility of a picture in working position ?
So as not to go off topic here is a link with story & images of the Barrel knives I've made - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/barrel-knives.1442159/#post16608781

And here's South Africa & Germany represented in the same brand, Okapi.

The top ratchet knife made in South Africa took a lot of work to make usable, it came with a loose blunt (not even ground!) blade & a ratchet that didn't lock. It did cost next to nothing so I can't really complain, & I would recommend one to anybody willing to put the effort into making one work, but as it came it was useless.
The smaller slip joint with a saddle spring was made in Germany before tooling was moved to S.A, still a very cheaply made knife but functional.
Both are made of resin impregnated wood of some sort.

Really like the Okapi (the Opinel of Germany/South Africa !).
What you did with the barrel knife is amazing and I say... it's very much on topic !
I will tell you what I think of mine (due in two days : it has been shipped today evening ! Couteaux Berthier don't joke !).

I’ve been checking out the D. Benito friction folders and I’m paralyzed between the choice of carbon or stainless steel. My immediate gut feeling is to go for the carbon, but what’s the stainless like? 440A? Heck, I’m sure the carbon is probably 1085 at best.

Beautiful knives!

I haven't used one a lot, but when I have it's done everything a knife should do!
To be honest I'd go for the carbon as that's what I like on a friction folder. I picked this lot up from a local shop selling them off, all they had was S.S hence that's what I got.
