Hey y'all. anyone have or tried a tramontina machete with both handles? all I've found locally have wooden handles that fit "perfectly" but I'd like it better if there was a fingers with of extra space. Anyone know if the plastic handles are larger than the wood ones?

I've got wooden handles/scales on mine they are sanded to fit my hands (which you can do for plastic) and when they eventually fail I will replace with some nice cherry or similar as imo even though they are so cheap a nicer handle is deserving of such an effective tool.

As long as it's solid and not hollow.
Depends on the thickness of the hollow scales. If they're REALLY thin they should be replaced with something more substantial anyhow. If they're on the thicker side you can often do light shaping work without compromising the scale. If you somehow make a mistake and grind through the scale then you can either use a torch to weld some plastic back on (carefully!) then sand back down, or replace the scale entirely with something solid. Nails make okay rivets if you have nothing better, but re-riveting with brass rod or using self-clinching fasteners with machine screws is best, of course.

I have just replaced all the hollow plastic handles I've had.

The only plastic handle I didn't replace was a solid injection moulded handle on a small gavilan barrigon pattern I have.

Injection molded is my preference, so long as the scales aren't textured. Smooth polypropylene injection molded handles are my top pick, followed by smooth wood, then textured injection molded (because I can sand it off), then textured wood, then hollow plastic dead last.

Translation:

They are produced in my country (Brazil). They are excellent blades, practically indestructible. hahahaha Great value for money, the most expensive ones cost around 7 to 20 dollars. Traditional plastic handles and wooden handles are the same size. There are other models, such as the cane cutter, which have longer handles. And what I really like, followed by "Terçado", with a wooden handle, wrapped in copper wire. Leaves excellent adhesion.

well, wooden handles are left unfinished on purpose, they are too rough to be confortable anyway if not sanded sometimes quite a lot!
i found a machete with a gummy handle, but it was too worn and cracked to be identified, it was like tire... and blade was rusty. now it's fine,
i din't know about this type of handle before.

and i'm lucky enough to read portuguese!
