Would like some recommendations for a high quality travel toiletry bag. There are so many choices, some ideas would be appreciated. I want something to last a lifetime. I make many small trips (100-400 miles) and will be going on a long cruise in a few months. I'd like something that will hold my toiletries.

Thanks.

The one I use is (was?) made by Outdoor Research. It's a nylon three fold zip up thing with several elastic loops to hold small (travel/sample) size bottles and tubes and a couple of zip up compartments to hold larger items. It has a hook to hang from a towel bar/coat hook/shower rod which turned out to be quite handy. Its about 8 years old and still holding up well.

I really like the Eagle Creek ones. I think I have a Wallaby or Wallaby II or something like that. Tons of pockets and spaces to organize, has a little mirror, integral hook to open it and hang it up so you have access to everything without having to set it down. Excellent product and I think Eagle Creek by and large makes good, well thought out stuff.

I got mine at an unlikely place... my local army/navy surplus store. I recommend the mechanics tool bag. It is a canvas bag with a sturdy brass zipper and handles. I can fit a ton of stuff in it, including a travel sized hair dryer, and it packs well due to it's rectangular size. Best of all, should cost you about $10. I've had mine for at least 10 years.

If you really want to go quality and expensive, Filson makes a great travel/toiletries bag. www.filson.com

I use a small rectangular Tupperware container bought at a Dollar Store for...wait for it!....$1! It fits everything, snaps closed, keeps stuuf in and out and packs easily.

If you like the classic dop kit style, Filson makes one. Typical high level Filson quality (and price).

red envelope does a roll-up leather excursion case, with a canvas liner. i've had mine for a couple years and i love it. was expensive, but i think i've gotten my moneys worth out of it.

hmm... the one they're carrying now is a bit different from mine, but same general style.

Big recommendation for the Filson Ultimate Travel Kit. I have one in otter green canvas with nylon lining and bridle leather trim. While packing my car at the Lake of the Ozarks, I accidentally dropped my bag over the edge of the parking garage. It fell two stories onto concrete. I very much expected to find my big bottles of Gucci and Burberry cologne all over the inside of it. Neither broke. In fact, despite a small scuff, you would never be able to tell I dropped it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ordered a Timberland one and it's awesome except it's WAY too big (315 cubic inches). Looking for something smaller. Will check out everyone's suggestions. I love this place. Everyone is so helpful!

a tupperware container inside of it for breakables, and keeping it's shape. It works wonderfully. I had a nice leather one once, and will not go back to leather.

It gets wet, stains easily, and scuff even easier. In a year of heavy travel, you can make a brand new, leather toiletry bag look like it is 10 years old.

I travel for a living, not like a national sales guy, but more like a regional sales guy (what I am) covering the Southwest US. For many years I have sued a TravelPro Crew Series toiletry kit bag. It folds open to hang on the back of a bathroom door or from some lighting fisture. It comfortably holds a can of Edge Gel shaving foam, a full sized stick deoderant, medium tube of toothpaste, small hair brush, toothbrush, razor and replacement cartridges, travel sized softsoap, shampoo, purell, q-tip container, Kershaw Vapor, Travel alarm clock, nail clippers, spare collar stays, sewing kit and a variety of cold remedies, throat losenges and asprin. It all folds up into a 8"x10"x4" package.

I can easily go to a week long trade show and have everything I need and then a bit in this kit and so far it's been durable as hell.

I don't find any links to Travelpro making a similar product today, but this Eagle Creek seems similar:

How come these toiletry bags are so big? I did not realize how big ~350 cubic inches was until I received my bag. Seriously, how do you guys fit this in your bags? I have small weekender duffels that are only a little (ok not a little, but definitely not twice as) bigger than these toiletry bags.
