I picked this up yesterday. It is supposed to be some kind of throwing/outdoor utility knife.....I understand it was a PX item during the Vietnam war.

I could see it being useful.

Randall sold them for a longtime. At one time he tried to get NASA interested in them (and a larger size) as a bolo knife for survival packs, but nothing came of it, and NASA went with the Case Apollo survival machete.

They were also popular with the few that hunt with thrown knife.

Great for throwing and as a large camp knife. I LOVE mine!!!!!
Challenging to design a throwing knife that's really good for much else .

That handle is made to leave your hand smoothly at release .

Chopper should want to stay in hand .

Most throwers have sturdy fat edges , also .

DocJD DocJD you’ll need to handle one to understand how it can work. Tru Bal used to offer custom grinds for folks wanting some actual knife use with their throwers. Surely it’s not optimal but they absolutely can and do serve well 👍
