Ok. I have a question in regards to the sought after true temper Kelley works perfect Jersey pattern axe with the phantom bevels. Ok. I see two types of axe heads in this regard. First is stamped “true temper Kelley perfect” with two lines. The other stamped “true temper perfect Kelley works” with the perfect in the center of three lines. Can anyone shed any light on the difference in these two stamps? Dates or the actual company? I am going to buy one and wanted to know which was older and/or better. Thank your very much for your time. Also I am new here and this is my first post. Thank you all very much!

Hi Gregory, welcome to the forum!

For the True Temper axes, the three line stamps are older than the two line stamps.

the older ones are stamped

True Temper
Perfect
Kelly Works

the newer ones are stamped

True Temper
Kelly Perfect

I'm not sure the exact dates though for each style. I want to say that the two line axes are maybe post 1950's (ish).

The newest version from the 80s and 90s are lazer engraved with:

Kelly Perfect
Wear Safety Goggles - USA B

and those date to when the rights to the Kelly name were bought by Barco,

someone might have a better idea of the exact dates for the timeline

there are also older kelly perfect heads. anything stamped charleston wv should pre date the three line stamps, and there are even some that predate the charleston factory and I think those are embossed with this whole long statement about how the perfect axe is the best thing since sliced bread.

Thank you for the info! I was wondering if you knew anything about the different weights of these heads? I have seen 3.5 and 4 lbs. are these the ably two that were made? Thank you very much!
Greg

No, I've seen weights of kelly perfect axes from 3 to 5 lbs.

3.5 pounds is probably the most common full size axe head weight, which is probably why you are seeing that weight frequently

I think I messed up. I was going to get a true temper perfect Jersey for felling but the one I got on the bay is 5 lbs. just too much for me to swing. It is almost perfect condition tho with a GREAT stamp. It has the
True temper
Perfect
Kelley works
Stamp.
Are you guys allowed to use this site to trade or is that a no-no
