Hello all, I just got my K03 Pro finally, and sharpened a knife on it, and I have heard that the diamond plates that come with the TSProf don't hold up the best/longest, and was wondering if anyone knew how long I should expect them to last?

I also had some questions regarding purchasing other diamond plates, CBN, bonded resin diamond stones, etc.

What exactly are the differences between the venev series, like centaur, orion, ursa, etc?

Do you prefer CBN or bonded diamond stones?

If you were to recommend a set of diamond plated/coated stones, what would you recommend?

If you were to recommend a set of bonded diamond stones/CBN what would you recommend?

Really enjoying the K03 Pro Hunter so far, but they did forget to include a thumbscrew for the height adjust to lock it in place, going to contact them in the morning about it.

Not sure I'll answer all of your questions, as I've only used the diamond plates ~20 times that came with the KO3 pro hunter, as I switched to PDT CBN stones. I find the CBN stones cut much faster and really doesn't matter what the steel is, they just work. I did have a harder time with the included KO3 stones when trying to sharpen magnucut (@65 HRC) than I have with the CBN stones. I think if you're a casual sharpener, then the included stones will last years, which I think I could have been happy with, I just like spending less time sharpening, and more time using knives. Again, not sure I helped a ton, but that's been my experience with the system and stones.

I don't remember how much I used the plates that came with my K03 before switching to Venev Orion plates. I didn't have any big issues with the TSPROF plates but liked the results with the Venev better. With Venev, I only use the 150, 240, and 400 grit plates. I do have a Poltava CBN plate in 120 grit that I use sometimes when doing a re-profile. It seems to be faster than the Venev 150, but leaves a heavier scratch pattern.

I’ve been using the set that came with my TSProf and they are working great. No problems with Magnacut, Elmax, S45vn, S30v, vg10 or 154CM.

I do however want to get some stones that go to maybe 3000 grit to try and do some mirror work.

So in for the recommendations on what others are using and best price/place to get them.

I’d say I have sharpened at least 20 knives already and the stones are holding up really well. I’m sure they’ll last a long time unless they start wearing faster.

Last time I talked about acquiring something from a place that isn't a partner of BladeForum, I was told that's a no go, but I picked up a full set of PDT CBN stones from a place that rimes with Flea Bay, I purchased the expert set, which was almost as spendy as the KO3 Hunter Pro, but I think they'll be the last stones I ever purchase - I'm not planning to become a professional knife sharpener or a knife maker, so my ~25-50 knives/year will likely never wear through these things. I also purchased Jende lapping kit (different source), in case I start to see these things wear, but again, I think that's years down the road. And to really make things a mirror, I did two different strops, one Kangaroo and one shell cordovan, with 3 and 1 µM gunny juice diamond emulsion - which with this set up, it almost feel like mirror finishes are too easy, but it's awesome!
