Hi everybody!

I just completed an order for a customer. He is a restaurant owner and he wanted a tuna steak knife and fork. If he likes this prototype I might get a free diner :) hope you like it!

Fork is from 416 and knife is from 416 and blue quenched in water at 63 HRC

Thanks for watching!

You can tune a piano, but you can't Tuna fish. _REO Speedwagon. :D

I think a knife and fork is a fine trade even for a dinner, but for the whole diner is a great deal.:p

Nice! Are you forge welding your own steel? I'm also curious, how are you testing the core's hardness, I'm always interested in learning how guys specifically test their laminated knives' hardness.

I gotta say, I think the fork you drew in the first picture looks pretty cool too, the twisted handle (at least it looks twisted) has a pretty neat look to it. Are you making a fork for each of the knives?

thanks, man!

yes, I am making my own steel. and forks are in the making at the moment for each knife along with nice wooden box.

I am mechanical engineer, I have ex colleagues working in labs so I can test pretty much what I want for free (maybe not for free, I have to buy coffee or pay lunch for bigger project)... Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers...

just to be clear, on the pictures is my blade hardened by me but I did not take them. it was a friend who was testing my abilities...

Oh how clever! Testing the core on the square ricasso and spine. I don't have a Rockwell diamond penetrating tester and have never used one (I just have a set of hardness chisels in A2 for testing directly on the edge), but I've just always seen guys testing the ricasso/tang area or the flat of the blade, so I was always curious how guys were their san mai and differentially hardened blades.

If you don't mind my asking, where are you able to to find the blue steel as a mono steel? I've only seen it pre-laminated, except for when Aldo had it for sale that one time.

Great job once again!

Thanks! I haven't checked Dictum for a while and for some reason I thought they only sold white and blue in pre-laminated billets. Good to know!
