Thought I read a post that said they were able to get welding heat out of a Turkey Fryer. Makes me curious anyway...the ones at Lowes put out 170,000 BTU's. Possibly putting the burner in the middle of a bunch of firebrick would contain the heat enough to work.
Anybody tried this?

I don't know about it welding hot (I don't know what that temp is), but they put out some serious heat. I've been using one to heat-treat my blades. It works great, especially with 1/8-inch steel. Got some vise-grips hooked up to a piece of wood so I just turn the blade like I'm cooking a hotdog. It really only takes about 2-3 minutes to get 1/8 steel to nonmagnetic.

The only problem with it is it doesn't do as good for big blades, since the burner is only so big. I've got an idea for that, and I was going to ask you guys if it would work later, but might as well ask now. I'm thinking about getting one of those adobe-type chiminea (little patio fireplace thingy) and turning it over so the fireplace opening was over the the burner. The "chimney" part would then be horizontal, and I think that would be like a jet burner with the fish-cooker/turkey fryer going. I just don't know if the chiminea would hold up. What do you think?

Got 1 for xmas
I was thinking of putting it on my boat but to much thrust i think.
You can cook dinner and heat treat knives at the same time.
Take Care
