Turn around times with Benchmade service?

For those of you who have sent in your BM's for servicing, what has been your experience? Did you get your knife returned in 2 weeks? Four weeks? Six weeks? Just curious how the process goes.... I got an email confirmation that they received my knife, do you also get one when they ship it back?

I mailed my knife in Jan 3rd.
BM received it Jan 6th.
BM repair shop emailed me on Jan 10th indicating they received it.

What next?

Thanks!

Shot show came next, so that is a delay for knifemakers that attend all over the world. That is the priority at the time, months of preparation go into it.

I'm not too concerned with the delay, I was more curious if people generally get another email when the knife is shipped back.

But in general, non-SHOT show month, what is the turn around time? A month?

I've never gotten an e-mail directly from BM saying they sent my knife back , but have always gotten an e-mail from UPS on their behalf saying my item has shipped or a label has been created and it ships shortly after that with a a tracking number.

Also, from the time I receive the e-mail that my knife was received it's never taken more then a few days to get the e-mail saying it's on it's way back.

They use UPS and I'm on the East Coast so it can take up to a full week for me to finally receive the knife once it's been shipped. My buddy who lives on the West Coast typically gets it back within three days once it's been shipped. A lot depends on where you live but it's always been reasonably fast as far as I'm concerned. For me the total turn around time I'd say has always been around two weeks or so, give or take a couple of days.

If you think it's taking to long or become concerned you can always call them and request the status. They are very good about that.

Hope this helps.

I live 1.5 hours from the factory, so I drop mine off (and gawk at the knives) when I'm in town. I have them mail the knives back and they usually arrive at my house in 2-4 days after I dropped them off. Longest was 6 days.

As said, Shot will gum things up.

I also don't get emails telling me the product's on it's way back, sometimes will get a UPS tracking number. It seems to depend on the CS rep handling the repair.

They had my Mini Onslaught for two or three weeks. Not bad. Just wait a little while.... They're probably busy with SHOT. :)

Out of curiosity I called BM on Friday to check the status and the friendly rep said or was finished and being sent back that day.

I will update when I get it and thoughts on the work when I get it back in case anyone is interested.

Quick update in case anyone goes through this same experience - I did get a follow up email from Benchmade with a FedEx tracking # on return.

Cool

They sent you a Fed-Ex tracking number?

Just confirming because they always used UPS as long as I can remember and suggest customers also use UPS to ship knives back.

I have always used USPS with tracking & delivery conformation though because it cost less and easier then UPS for me but the times they have sent me a prepaid label it was always UPS and my knives have always been returned via UPS.

Just asking because if they sent it back to you using Fed-Ex that means they have changed carriers. Not an issue just interesting.

Thanks!

Yes, the email came with a link to FedEx tracking.

Thanks for confirming.

Looks like they must be making some changes overthere....

Guess we'll see if it's any faster or not.

Hope you receive your knife back soon.

Just a final update for anyone who may be curious about the warranty.

I mailed my knife in Jan 3rd.
BM received it Jan 6th.
BM repair shop emailed me on Jan 10th indicating they received it.
BM emailed Jan 28th with a link to FedEx tracking for return.
I received my knife back Feb 1 in perfect condition.

Blade is now perfectly centered, does not rub liners, and has 0 play in any direction. The blade doesn't deploy as fast as it once did, but Im sure it will break in or may just need a few drops of blue lube.

They actually went above what was expected. On my repair form I noted that the blade coating was rubbing off due to scraping the liners, and if they could not "spot coat" the marks to not replace the blade because I didn't want to pay the additional $25. Turns out they did anyways free of charge - very cool. :)
