Nice welds,

did you do any profile forging?

I ask because there is some distortion to the pattern from plunge to tip

if, as I suspect, the billet was forged down to flat and then ground to shape, you might want to work on getting the twists even with each other.

just a little nit picky thing

im not sure what you mean by profile forging. I think i do but maybe you could elaborate before i say what i think so i dont look like an idiot.:o:)
Yes the billet was forges flat prior to grinding.

Thats what i thought you meant:)
This knife was shaped with a grinder, any ideas what caused the distortion and what can i do to improve. BTW thanks for the help.:D:thumbup:
I also have another blade that is not finished but i can tell that the twist is alot further apart. I know why, how do i get a good tight twist along the entire length of the billet. It kept getting tighter on one end while not the other, just kind of bent the entire thing in the middle. Do I need to twist in smaller increments? thanks again.

Nice job! While I can appreciate your desire to get your twists more even, I really like the way this one came out. Makes me want to get out to the forge!

This is going to sound odd coming from somebody as anal about consistency and repeatability as I am, but one of the things I like about a twist like this is the little bits of randomness thrown in!

A low layer twist like this is one of my favorite patterns... I would often take it over most fancy mosaics, as it's a nice, organic pattern that flows well with a knife. Lots for the eye to see, without being TOO much to take in... and without overpowering the overall lines of the knife.

Great stuff! :)

thanks for the help stephan.

Your right Nick, every time i look at it it looks different, ive got another piece from the same billet that is completely different from this one.
I was really happy with the way it turned out, now just want to make sure i can repeat the process. Next Im going to try ladder.

Yeah, what Nick said. Twist is probably my favorite damascus pattern.
