Those are both beautiful Bush Hermits! Is that Buckeye burl on the bottom? Incredible

Thanks for the nice comment burnside.

This handle material was originally described as “Brisket Rub Burl”, whatever the heck that is. It looks to me to be double-dyed Maple or Alder Burl. Here is the link to the original sale thread from August 2016.

I love the Bush Hermit. I can't stress enough for everyone to try one. I may even do a pass-around with mine.

I agree Bob. The Bush Hermit is one of the best and most versatile models Andy has ever produced. This is not just my opinion. The fact that both Justen ( @Southern Gent ) and Kevin ( @k_estela ) chose this model as part of their kit on the African Safari trip should show how well regarded it is.

A couple of the features that stand out to me are the centered palm swell position, taller handle height, and shallow “m” curve shape on the bottom of the handle. The cutting edge is slightly down-turned from the alignment of the bottom of the handle. This feature yields some immediate leveraged bite when carving into wood.

Taken altogether, the Bush Hermit has much to recommend it as the best choice for someone who is looking for the “One” to add to their collection.

It has been two years since I posted my first thoughts on the Bush Hermit in this sub-forum. For new folks who have not read it, this is one of my favorite write-ups on one of my favorite models. Thanks again to @prom52 for lending me the knives to evaluate.

My high regard for the Bush Hermit has only grown since then. I think Bob’s idea of a pass-around would yield many new converts to this model. Maybe the shop ( VANCE VANCE or @Fiddleback ) could make it happen so that Bob doesn’t have to sacrifice his cherished knife for several months to promote the brand.
