What would be the best (but not too expensive) combat knife for protection IN THE HOME? It must be legal in UK.

Any suggestions :)

What are the regulations there?

A short sword, like anything with a stabbing tip and large reach would do well, but are they legal?

Hi alext747 and welcome to bladeforums . as long as its not a flick knife ( switch blade ) or butterfly knife . . and you are over 18 then all other knives / machetes are legal to own . as for used as a self defence weapon .the laws here i'm pretty strict . you are allowed to protect your life using reasonable force . unfortunately that can be taken many different ways ... I would suggest you get yourself a decent bat and a good mobile phone and a good alarm :)

Pistol oh wait...stupid gun laws...sorry....

Buck intrepid and nighthawk (beside a pistol) is what I use for a fixed blade
If you want to go cheap id go with a buck 119 about $40 and it's got a gard

For a folder

Tops/buck CSAR-T
Buck vantage force pro or select for cheap
Buck marksmen
Maybe something from cold steel or ZT

Best of luck
ZTD

Are you allowed to have medieval weapons? How about a mace or a roman short sword? Could be called functional wall ornaments lol.

Baseball bat would be better than most knives if you aren't trained in knife combat, I can't believe I just suggested that someone not buy a knife on bladeforums

Self-defense in the U.K.
Forget about using a knife for self-defense. Your best "weapon" would be a large, heavy flashlight or a cricket bat.

An entrenching spade, large wrench, Japanese tanbo, bolt cutters (18" & up), corn broom, stainless steel soup ladle, etc. Garden tools make decent weapons, & they're primary role is for peaceful purposes, not a weapon designed for combat. Only try to subdue your attacker, don't try to kill him with a fatal blow, it will not look good on your part. If you have a option to flee, do so & find help.

The best home defense is to rig your entire house with booby traps, as demonstrated in the documentary film "Home Alone".
Everybody knows that.

If you have a garden, however small, a spade sharpened on all 3 sides. Otherwise a squeeze bottle of bleach (to the eyes) in one hand ( "Its for cleaning the bathroom, constable"), & a ball peen hammer or similar in the other.

Home defense in the UK would involve ensuring that there are no parts of your home that may inadvertently injure a burglar, who, after all, is entitled to reasonable and safe working conditions.

Cold steel large bokken

It is what i use here in sweden with our similar law interpretation
Weighs about 890g, point of balance five inch - much better feel than their hand&half model, smashes bone and bricks if needed
