50cm 20" overall, 30cm 12" blade, 4.5mm D2 steel blade, wooden handle

If you REALLY want light weight then Mora has what they call an insulation knife. 8 ounces for 13 in. of blade. Otherwise I'd recommend a 14 in. Tramontina.

Esee light machete, Cliff did a nice review on it with good results. Also coldsteel has a huge variety.

Tramontina 12" or 14" trail machete, the Eco machetes from Condor(same blades as the ESEE Lite). All are very lightweight.

My top recommendations are either the Mora #333 (requires edge modification for durability) and the Svord Kiwi Machete. It doesn't get much lighter than those two, the Mora in particular. The #333 feels like a 3" bladed knife in the hand it's so light but it bites wayyyyyyyy deeper than one would expect. The factory edge is stupidly thin and with a heavy burr due to the original intended purpose of cutting rolls of insulation, and it'll wrinkle on thin woody plants. I thicken the edge angle to a still quite thin 15° per side and it holds up nicely.

It is on the smaller side for a machete but the condor mountain knife is very light, comes with a great sheath, and performs very well. It will also do some light chopping if necessary.

Benjomin supplied me with a Imacasa 12" Pata de Cuche
They are very light @ 9.5 oz

And the sheath at another couple of ounzes

I touched up the edge with a DMT fine after Benyamin's special grade sharpening
It sits in my back pack , and has no weight to it to carry
But due to is shape it chops very well

All in all, a great light weight machette and the price is even better

You can get free image hosting from places like Flickr. Imageshack, however, is only free for the first couple of uploads. Photobucket is often used but I know nothing about them.

So, this may make me look a little dumb, but 3" branches with a light machete? Seriously? I spent 5 hours behind a machete today whacking bamboo and various thin trees branches, but got the tree saw out for anything over 1". Or are your outdoors populated by balsa trees up there?
