Hello! This is my first review but certainly not my first knife. I have been planing on getting a new blade for some time and decided to check out bladeplay website and see what I could find. I came across this particular black plain Italian style spring assisted knife.

It cost me 26 dollars and took close to a week to get it. When I did finally get it and held it I noticed it was a little heavier then my other knives I had (which in my opinion is not a bad thing). It felt good in hand and had a really good grip in my opinion. One thing that immediately turned me off was that I had a legitimately hard time flipping it open. Another family member also tried it and couldn't open it at first. I tried my left hand and was finally able to open it but had to struggle. The spring can definitely be loosened.

The edge on the blade is none existent which they listed as plain on the website. Its pokey on the top though.

The style and design of the knife itself was bad ass. I absolutely love the bio-hazard black symbol on the side of it. The knife comes with a pocket clip that is deep so you might like that. I have no use of carrying it around with me so I don't particularly find that feature useful. Here is a small grade chart summary:

Design: A

Steel type: 440C - C -

Functionality: D - Spring is way too tense.

Grip: B

Pocket Clip: A

Overall: B-

Did I feel I got my moneys worth out of it? Yes and no. I really like the design and feel of it; but I really don't like the spring tension making it extraordinary difficult to get the blade out.

It's a stilletto-style, though, and penetration is probably acceptable. Can you maybe oil it and work it until it smoothes out?

It looks like the Tailwind knives don't have a separate spring but one that's integral with one of the scales. I don't know if that has anything to do with how hard this particular one is to open or not, though. Here's a vid showing the mechanism on another Tailwind model:
