Currently I am restoring my Fathers old (~30 years) axe that was terribly mistreated. After cleaning the head of rust I found a few, what I assume to be, makers marks. I was wondering if anyone is able to tell me the maker or brand of this axe head. All and any help would be appreciated, and I apologize for any ignorance that I may have for I am still a youngster. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-NOgPQc81KDsxp_gP-ru0e4Ir6MPGLcuPPKtlc375SY/edit?usp=sharing

For those who cant view or read the images, it is says

M
3V2

I think it's probably made in Mexico.

Another one of the infamous "M" heads. Recent versions have been determined to be from "M"exico but yours may well precede that. Type 'M stamped axe' into the search engine on here and see what comes up. The 3 1/2 is easy enough to interpret though; weight of the head in pounds.

It's obviously more modern due to the flat cheeks, but how recent who knows.

I did some more digging around and found that the M means Maine for Snow & Nelly axes. True or false? I have yet to see "M" For Mexico.

Maybe it's a Plumb:

Plumb%20M%20mark.jpg

Marking used on some PLUMB single bit axes and hatchets. The letter “M” sometimes appears by itself and sometimes with a mark above the letter “M” which was from the top edge of the stamp. The letter may have stood for a significant distributor that sold axes so marked.

It has that exact mark above the M ( as I can clearly see in the picture )
So you may be right, it probably is a late production plumb.

Thank you Steve. I'm all in for this as the OP head and the yesteryearstools rendition are dead ringers. Take a look for evidence of remnants of red epoxy in the eye.

All that is in the Eye were vertical grind marks, similar to marks that are located on the poll(Horizontal). However these grind marks are unusual because the rest of the axe seems to be forged. Will post pictures of grind marks in a bit.

Thanks to all who have helped out thus far! Very informative!

My pre 60's Collins homestead has the same marks In the eye.
