True story....

I was at the gas station and a guy walks up and asks for money for
some gas (holding one of those empty red gas containers). I reached
into my pocket and all I had was a $10.00... gave it to him... and
started to walk away. He said thanks , reached down into his boot
pulled out a sheathed knife and gave it to me. "I asked 30 people
for gas money and you are the first to even talk to me." I told him the
trade wasn't necessary but he insisted.

I interrogated this web site (back to year 2000 postings) and was met
with an overwhelming.."meh"... apparently, less than quality steel (400's), ...
"but it won't rust" . From what I've read here Taylor surgical steel (Japan) travelled
incognito as Smith & Wesson, Nascar, and Camillus logo blades ...(among
other brand names). A quick review of Ebay indicates these blades can be
had for between $15 - $45 ... Various sites refer to these as "boot knife"
and/or dagger.

Seems to cut and stab well enough. And, yes , no rust. Kind of a cool little
working knife...not pretty enough to be a closet queen.

Any interesting stories about knife acquisition ?

I found a kitchen knife while fishing in the green river a couple years ago. It probavly came from the houses that where nearby, but of course the first thing that comes to mind is that its a murder weapon.

When I was around 12 someone left a brand new in package Schrade 34OT laying around the apartment for weeks, I'm assuming my mom's husband picked it up at Walmart simply because they were on sale ( right before Schrade closed ) and forgot about it.
I glanced at it every day until one day I opened it , dropped it into my pocket, and descreately disposed of the packaging.
Nobody ever asked about its wherabouts or anything, and I'm not sure it was known that I had it either.

Technically I guess I stole it, but it seemed to have been forgotten about.

Good one HnS ...I'm guessing you are not alone in having secured a "forgotten"
knife ...I'm betting you have paid it forward many times over. Funny how those
events stay with us...12 years old...lots of sunrises between now and then...right ?

A little over a decade worth.

Btw I still have the 34OT , sort of.
The very proud sitting sheep's foot had zero snap, so last year i decided to take it apart and modify it into this.

I've also got my Leatherman fuse that I took from my mom's current husband when I was a teenager.
It's kind of a long story, but let's just say he was involved in some shady activity which had a 15 year old me sleeping with my great grandfathers axe next to my bed.
I found the leatherman laying in the shed and it's been on me everyday since.

That's a cool little knife.

My son found this hatchet on the bottom of a Maine lake - my theory is it fell into an ice fishing hole.

no, someone threw it out there after trying to actually chop a bunch of wood with a steel shaft... theory vs practice, yes steel is tough and strong, but in practice it is not an ideal shaft material

Why is that, I wonder?

Maybe it is just me or some vibes I send out, but I get hit on for $ all the time. There are certain gas stations I refuse to visit because every time I visit somebody wants money. The last time was for paying a motel bill... forget it.

Had a guy want to sell me a slip joint about a year ago when I was visiting a Kroger store. I didn't buy it from him. He kept dropping the price.... nope. Keep it.

Years ago, I found a daily planner on the side of the road. It had the owners phone number in it. Called him for a mailing address and sent it to him. He, in return sent me a Eyebrand slip joint as a gesture of appreciation. Still have the knife
