"James Black style coffin handle Bowie knife called "Bowie No. 1"

Blade thickness about 4.5 mm , sharpened on single edge only, aged blade knife. No guard, Brass bolsters, Brass fittings and Steel pins,

History:

"The URSA Crafts Man followed and Learned early on that you cannot identify or verify an authentic Bowie knife unless you hold it and see it—in this case,

eyeball to rusty metal. From Greg’s picture I could not be sure how big the relic was. However,

from the shape of the blade and coffin handle, along with the pin pattern and the studs in the handle and the brass overlays on the blade in front of the handle,

I suspected that it was made by Black circa 1831-1838, in Washington, Hempstead County, Arkansas Territory.

Knife Care Tips:

Never Store your knife for long periods in the Leather Sheath. Leather can absorb water, which will rust the knife. If your Sheath gets wet, don't store the knife in it. After use, wash the blade, dry it, and WD-40, vegetable oil, or Vaseline on the blade to prevent rust.

Carbon steel will change colors with time but will still perform well. Clean the brass and handle metal with Flitz or other brass cleaner. Wax is another alternative for the sheath, metal parts and the knife blade.
