USA Made hard use folder

Benchmade loco or mini loco, Adamas or mini Adamas

the regular versions are big pocket knives

Buck 110 with it's tiny pivot pin? Hard use? All these big oversized threaded pivots on knives these days and people still act like the old 110 is just as tough. Mine was loose in every direction just from light use.

It’s a shame butterfly knives are a major no-no nearly everywhere.
They are (shockingly) legal here in the United Socialist State of Illinois. However, I think people see them more as novelty than actual users. Either that or they are too flashy/weapony for use among sheeple.

Maybe it's time I get one. Haven't had one since high school.

Seriously? I've used my 112 at work for years without an issue. Perhaps the term "hard use" should be better defined. For my purposes, impacts, twisting and lateral loads on the blade exceed my expectations of the kind of use that a folding knife should withstand in repeated use. The OP stated that he needed a knife for farm and hunting use. A 110 that can't work on a farm should be returned for warranty repair.

Bought a brand new 110 and it was tight no play. Used it to cut small branches overgrowth along hiking trails. It became loose before I was back home.

I did buy another one to try again and it seems better overall, as far as fit and finish. But, it's the anniversary model and I put it up without using it. Maybe I'll pick up another and try it to see if I got a bad one.

Unless you’re using it as a pry bar or something non cutting. In proper use and care a Buck 110 will last for generations. Millions of them in use and still see some that are in the 1967 era that still being used.

So you don't think a nonthreaded small pivot pin is weaker than a large threaded one?

That’s not what I said at all. A crow bar is stronger than a pin or screw, better yet use a machete or a hatchet.
What I did say was that the 110 is plenty strong for proper use.

Actually, no. The 110 pivot is 1/8 inch and most threaded pivots are about the same in the major diameter and the threads further compromise the strength. But, is material failure of the pivot pin really the cause blade play more than the rest of the pivot and lock mechanism? A threaded fastener has the advantage of being easily adjusted and a back lock will develop play with wear. The Buck 110 isn't the best or most durable folder out there, but it is a solid value for a working knife.

Two days ago, I cut up a plastic trash can with my 112 to fit it in the recycle bin. I had to put my weight behind the knife to cut through the plastic and I probably should have used a reciprocal saw. I just now took the knife out of my pocket and it locks up solid. Unless you were pounding on your 110, it should cut through tree branches for years. I think you might have a warranty issue.

It wasn't tree branches, it was green thorny overgrowth along hiking trails. I snap cut it and it's not much of a torture test.

Send it back to Buck, you shouldn't have a problem with it. I speculate that the pin may not be properly peened to the bolster, or that the bushing fits improperly.

If you do buy another, give the 112 some consideration. It's kind of an under dog to the 110, but I find it handier for EDC.

Opening a butterfly knife is like watching break dancing before a slow dance

I really like my zt 0562. It’s a great hard use knife. I actually use my para3 the most for my work knife even though it is smaller I find it ready for just about anything I’ve thrown at it.
