Today was pumpkin carving day!

Sierra- Koyote Girl- got some use out of the Sgian Dubh I made her for her birthday (and yall thought I forgot or something)- it's wenge wood handled and a really sweet piece, very suited to icepick stabbing:

She also used my small sheeple EDC

Both worked well, though Sierra says that doulbe edged knives are a bit tough to use for the detailed function of pumpkin carving. She seems to think it's a fine sgian dubh for the original purpose, though

You can , if you look carefully enough, see 6 airguns and 2 firearms in the photos above- easter egg hunt!

Now, we all three (Leif was working on his jack of the lantern, as well) used koyote knives for at least part of the fun:

The wenge Sgian Dubh is pictured, as well as the rebar forged kitchen utility- most used knife in my house by others! - A osage handled petty knife and a small child's chef in oak scales. My small maple handled sheeple EDC is there as well as my shop knife- the first fully forged knife I made. Still going strong after 3 years of full time shop usage.

But in the end, as much as we love out koyotes, we followed the advice of the Pumpkin King- my son, Leif.

Truly, victorinox was thinkinf of Hallowe'en when they designed that wonderful saw.

Hi Koyote -

I enjoyed seeing those pics. I used to carve a pumpkin every year.

I used a big camp-knife for the cutting of the top and vent holes, and then a small jigsaw blade to do the face-carving.

Thanks for sharing your pics!

best regards -
