Does anyone know how to decipher the Usps tracking numbers? Have searched Usps and heaps of google found sites without success.

After 4 years of absolutely no problems with Usps (prefered) shipping from the USA to Thailand (expat, relocated), have gotten a label number that is different than all before.
All previous began were this format ECxxxxxxxxxxUS.
The latest is LCxxxxxxxxUS and will not registar at Usps tracking after 5 days, and has obviously not arrived.
So what does LC mean?

Esav Benyamin,
Have done that, no reply, but what can you expect from a web page that has
How do I send my condolences to Nancy Reagan?
on it.
Just want to know what the LC means. (Lousy Code works, but is not what I needed :) ).

Recieved an email from a USPS employee which helped me to understand.
Tks to all.

Keith,
Sure, however, what I was told pertains only to the first two digit code "LC". It a Customs Form Tag number and am not sure if it is even a tracking number. Although it was sent to me as a tracking number, it does not register on the USPS site. As the person who helped me did so by private email, am not sure if he would appreciate if I give his name, so will leave it up to him.

There are typically 2 Numbers that you get when sending a package via Priority or Express with USPS. The first one is a Customs Number, and the second one is a Tracking number. The customs number always starts with an LC for me here in Canada.

The Tracking numbers are like so: The Global Priority ones will start with either LZ, LY or LX if i recall correctly, and the Express (EMS) ones will start with an ER for me. This is only my experience based on packages coming into Canada, mind you. And yes, global priority can be tracked (kind of) in Canada, as well as Express (EMS). I recommend using Canadapost.ca to check for packages sent via Priority to Canada from the US and Purolator.ca to check for EMS packages sent to Canada.

This is kind of off-topic but may be of interest to other Canadians importing from the US.

Thanks. There is no need to post the person's name.

LC is a code used on global priority mail envelopes etc.... It is not a tracking number.
And can not be tracked.

That was a very nice tidbit. EX will be for Thailand, not sure for the rest of SE Asia.

Shayetet13,
LC It is not a tracking number.
Right you are. Will give it another day and then email back for the real tracking number.
Tks to all again,
Barry
