I've got a Schrade / Uncle USA 227UH folder. What's the approximate value?

It's in pretty good shape - it looks like it's gotten very little use, but some marking on the bolsters from being stored in the sheath.

Most Schrade USA knives now sell for less than their last (2004) list price. If you spend time on ebay you will eventually win a Schrade USA 2 blade Folding Hunter (25OT or 227UH) unused, with a sheath, for under $30. Most do go higher, but eventually an unused example comes along that for some reason gets very little bidding.
With time & patience a great many very fine Schrade USA knives can be acquired for bargain prices, especially if you are not interested in also having the original box and papers. However, you need to really know your Schrades to make sure your 'bargain' is a USA Schrade.

So, if they're marked "USA" you're good, right? No counterfeits out there?

Looking for old Schrades for cheap at local shows is my knife hobby at this instant in time.

To answer your question simply: Yes, offshore made knives do not have "U.S.A." on them.
However not all "Schrade U.S.A." marked knives are true Schrades. A "true Schrade" is a knife that was made in the Schrade factory. Schrade closed in 2004. It took 18 semi-trailers fully loaded to haul away what was mostly unfinished knives and knife parts, including blades ready to be installed into frames.
These parts have been made into knives some place else.
The new owner of all of the Schrade names has had Camillus(now also dead, 2007, R.I.P.) and Bear Cutlery make copies of various Schrade patterns and brand them as "Schrade Walden"
However, Schrade made many millions of knives so most that you will see with "U.S.A." on the tang are knives manufactured by Schrade.
By using the search function in the Schrade forum you can find a great deal of authoratative information for every pattern/pattern # that Schrade made. One of the members has most of the paperwork from about 1970 (?) on, such as minutes of meetings, shop floor production notes, etc. This is authoratative.

Hmmmm, what I love about old Schrades is that they are cheap slipjoints made with great carbon steel. I hope they never get real collectable, although I think they are starting to. Money has to be tight for me for a while so going to shows and antique stores looking to "stock up" on a few old, great knives is a nice way to pass the time.

For your post can I assume that the "USA Schrades" assembled elsewhere are still good knives, just not as collectable? Also, Bear(?) and Camillus are good companies. Are the Schrade Waldens good carbon steel knives (When not Schrade+ of course)? Are they marked "Walden"?

If they are both good, but not as collectable, (and cheaper) gimme more of them. ;)

I know we are risking being moved to the Schrade forum about now.
