Bumped as we appraoch 2007 - same question 4 years later :)

I own one of these "original" Civilians -

I have the three clips, the letter that came with it, and the knife is 99%. Are these a collectors item?

I also own a "Q" and was shocked to find out my $12 knife was worth $80+... Wish I'd bought those instead of Lucent :barf:

There's a fairly good following on ebay for Tuffram coated Civilians like yours. The minty-condition knives seem to stay up in the $120 region without difficulty.

That's about the same price as you'll find at a gun/knife show. There are some that i've seen that have a lot of wear and tear and maybe a slight amount of tip breakage, these go for as low as $70.

I have seen the plain edge version of the tuffram civilian go for as much as $350.
I understand only 300 of the Plain edge ones were ever made.

Plain edge tufframs were the only civilian's available with a plain edge until the more recent carbon fiber versions. That may be another reason why the price was high on the plain edge tuff rams.

I don't know how many were made, but tufframs have been out of production for a number of years and the price is still less than a NIB MSRP.

"Any chance they'll be worth real $$$ someday?"

Yep, just keep it nice & clean and check back in 5-10 more years. It's hard to say how much it MIGHT be worth, because demand by collectors will drive the price up. The Tuffram SE Civies were made that way for a number of years, so supply has slowed, but hasn't stopped on the auctions. Time will change this in your favor.

If you consider $200 for a serrated tuffram civilian "real money"
then "someday" is now!

Ebay item #2203213605 went for $200 with 25 bids placed.

Not too shabby!

That one had G-2 steel blade, too. I guess maybe my previous estimate was outdated. (I think I got my G-2 marked Civie for 125 or so a year or so ago). There's a certain amount of luck that seems to play-in with these auctions, but still, maybe they're worth more than I thought.

Muahaha... I'm back, a little more than a year later... knife still in the drawer... and none are on eBay...

Lucky enough to be able to hold onto it for now, don't need the bucks...

Im actuallay the current high bidder on that one
it would make a nice addy to my other civies

Back again, coming up on 2007. Whats the market these days? Thinking about a Sebenza, and might let this one and my "Q" go...
