Hi all,

I live in Canada, and have just recently been accepted to begin training with the RCMP. To celebrate, my girlfriend bought me the buck Vanguard 192BR I had been eyeing. It is a beautiful knife. However, instead of coming with the brown leather sheath it belings in, it was packaged in the nylon sheath for the rubber handled fixed blade alpha 693.

She said she noticed this discrepency and questioned the salesman about it, and was told that Buck no longer made the leather sheath for the Vanguard, and this was the only sheath they were recieving for it.

As I said, the knife itself is beautiful, but it is such an eyesore to see the gorgeous wood handles sticking out of the nylon sheath, so what is the story here? I am sure Buck still makes the leather sheath, I am assuming the store somehow goofed things up and the salesman didn't know any better. The box is labeled correctly, and apparently it was the last one in stock. Is it possible that Buck shipped the knife in the wrong sheath?

Anybody? Joe? Have you ever been hit with an issue before where the wrong sheath or no sheath was recieved with a brand new knife?

Stu

I have a Buck Vanguard and the guthook model, the Zipper.

Both came with the nylon sheath.

I wasn't wild about the nylon and had a custom kydex sheath made for the Vanguard.

Congratulations for being accepted into the Royal Candien Mounted Police!!! That is sooooo awesome!! When I was 6 y/o (and living in CT.), I wanted to join the RCMP!!! I am sorry that I can not help you with the sheath.

The Bill of materials still shows a leather sheath. We have some in stock, send me your address. I will check into if this a permanent change or not..

Jeff,

E-mail sent, thanks.

Guyon,

Does your Vanguard and Zipper have the wood handle, or the rubber handle? The rubber handled ones come with the nylon sheath, the wood handled ones, such as mine, are supposed to come with a leather sheath.

TheKnifeCollector,

Thanks for the congratulations. It was a long process to get into the Queen's Cowboys, I spent over 17 months in the recruitment process, which was very much hurry up and wait. It feels good to finally be through and starting out on what should be a very interesting path of life.

That's the difference. Mine are both rubber handled. Based on the info on the Buck website, yours should have come with the leather.

J Hubbard will likely still come through for you, but fwiw replacement sheaths are available from some Buck dealers. For example:

$12 is not as good as $0, but still not too bad, if you need it like right now. Good luck and congrats on the RCMP.

Eric,

I appreciate your truly generous offer, however, concealex is not exactly what I pictured this knife being wrapped in. Lik I mentioned, it came with a sehat, just the wrong sheath. I actually have a Buck 888 Solution that you "wrapped" for me, and there is not denying that you do beautiful work. However, there is something about the wood handle and brass pommel and graurd that needs to be wrapped in leather. Also, once I finish up my training here, I am hoping to have the RCMP crest engraved on the butt of the knife, making it more of a display/commemorative piece.
