Very very stiff Ray cover slippy

Hi all ..
Ive recently purchased a brand new Ray Cover slippy as my new EDC
But i have a tiny concern when opening the blade its tight i mean REALLY tight finger nail pain tight :eek:
.... is this normal !!

I have a few by Ray and they do tend to lean to the firm side but not like you describe. I assume you have oiled the joint. (see my signature line:D)
 
Ray's knives are on the firm side but nothing extreme in my experience. I would contact either the seller of the knife or Ray himself if you cannot live with it or use it safely.
 
I guessing it has a half stop so leave the knife open 1/4 or 3/4 of the way open when you are not carrying it. It is not a miracle cure but I have found it does help a little.

Which model is it? As most have said, Ray's backsprings run on the heavy side, but I've never seen any but his largest two blade model that I felt had too much tension. Ray's knives run very consistent on spring tension, so it might actually be the norm.;)
 
Thanks Durwood its the Large 2 Blade Trapper ! .. Please don't get me wrong the fit & finish is 100% theres NO complaints ..
I was just curious ive had two single bladed Rcover`s in the past which were comfortable to open but as they were bought
secondhand i wasent sure if all of Rays folders were excessively stiff from new.

In my past experience with Ray's folders,brand new from him,almost all,needed to be opened & closed "cycled",if you would,with repeated oil bath or flushing,with a lubricant.After doing this,a lot of black gunk flowed out of the pivot & the actions were smooth as glass,firm tension always & no lock up issues.
It may be the polishing rouge he uses gets in there,I do not know,but this is the way it was on a few,for me,in as new from Ray condition.
