Hi all --

I've been on a SAK buying spree for a couple of weeks now, and I've purchased both a "Classic" and a 'Classic SD.' What I'm wondering is if there are any major differences between the two, beyond a simple name change?

Could the SDs have the new version scissor spring...?

Thanks for your replies,
GeoThorn

I think the "SD" stands for Screw Driver. The end of the nail file is a flat head screw driver on the SD..

I beleive the only difference is the tip of the nail file...the Classic SD has a squared off tip that can be used as a screw driver - SD! The classic has a pointed tip nail file. I only have the Classic SD models but I wondered about the same thing and came up with that conclusion. That question has been asked either here or over in SOSAK. I'm sure somebody will let us know if there are any other differences. The Classic SD has a nail file/screwdriver tip, small blade, scissors, and the tweezers and toothpick in the scales...handy little knive! Goes well with an Alox Soldier which doesn't have any of those features other than the larger blade and the small screwdriver tip on the can opener.

jchaney is correct. The original Classic had a pointed tip to the nail file used to clean ones nails. This was replaced with a flat screwdriver tip to the file - The Classic SD (Screw Driver).

Do you know if they still make both??? I know both are available but this could be to large stock supply.

This is a little OT...There is a question about whether or not the Yoeman is still made. I had one knife dealer tell me that the Yoeman was still made...only in the Boy Scout version...but it is still made because it is on his 2005 price listing. The opinion varies and I don't recall finding it on any of the Victorinox/Swiss Army sites. I do know that some of the Boy Scout supply shops have them in stock...but again is this the remaining supply?

Thanks, gents, for all of your answers!

One of the "Classic" SAKs I've bought in this last two weeks may have just had older packaging, that hadn't been packaged with the 'Classic SD' label on it's security tag, inside the blister pack. It has a screwdriver tip on it's file, like a "Classic SD" is apparently supposed to, but it's labelled as being a "Classic." I vaguely remember my oldest "Classic" having a point or 'nail cleaner' on the end of the file, but I wasn't certain, and I've misplaced that knife.

Thanks again,
GeoThorn

This is a little OT...There is a question about whether or not the Yeoman is still made.

Victorinox does still make both the Classic and the Classic SD.

The original Yeoman is sadly no longer available. The reason there is so much confusion over this is that when Victorinox discontinued it they began selling the Explorer with a Boy Scout logo under the name Yeoman. The new boy Scout Yeoman is simply a standard Explorer with the BSA logo on it, even though the boxes say "Yeoman".

Original Yeoman models do still show up occasionally, but 99% of what you see advertized as the Yeoman is actually the BSA Explorer. And a lot of on-line dealers either don't know the difference or actively mislead their customers about which one they have.
