So I've always wanted a Victorinox Swiss army knife. Ive always had the cheapo. So I was at Academy sports and outdoors, And they had the explorer for 29.99, And I was so happy Cuz I've never seen them at that price. Go to ring it up, and it comes back 39.99 , 35$ was all I had, And they guy said "Sorry Sir, I cannot sell it to you for that price listed on the rack." SO I asked for a manager, He came up and we walked back to where the rack was and scanned it, sure enough, marked for 30$, It was a mistake, And he said they have to sell it to me for the price marked. SCORE Anyways, I haven't even opened it yet. But I'm excited, Are there any other Swiss Army Explorer owners out here in the knife world? If so post your experience with them, and pictures of course! THANKS AND GOD BLESS:o

The Explorer has been my EDC for over thirty years I have done a ton of wood working with it and it has saved me a thousand trips to the tool box. I am on my third one, I wore the main blade off the first two. The were still solid though. I have used the Magnifying class and tweezer to take out hundreds of wood and steel slivers.

I've had an Explorer for about 20 years now...given to me on my 7th birthday (my 27th B-day comes up tomorrow). I've had the scales replaced numerous times, used the large knife as a screwdriver, used the magnifying glass to start a fire, and even swallowed toothpicks on this thing! I was young... But this was one of my first knives that really got me into collecting knives. Afterwards came a Pocket Pal, and I found a Super Tinker when camping in Boy Scouts at Camp Meriwether in 1995 or so...

It's a great SAK to be honest, really has a lot of features to it that are super useful. I've pretty much used every tool on that thing to good use.

Ahh, sorry. Didn't see there was a multi tool section. Thanks!

Awesome stories guys. Makes me feel even more thankful that I got one and can rely on it for many many years to come. I will definatly have to get more if I can find them! really good stories. Thank you.

I love that little loophole....I got my gerber harsey ranger that way....was mis-marked for over half off, and they had to sell me that one for the price marked....always a nice little surprise! nice snag! enjoy it!

Not trying to one-up you, but I just picked up an Eddie Bauer Explorer for $10....brand new, from the store.

My wife and I were shopping and wandered into the store--there were some very nice deals, such as some pretty nice fanny packs/shoulder bags for $5 (totally worth it!), and sweaters for $7.50-$15.

Needless to say I almost fell over when I realized the Explorer would be $10!

Keep your eyes open, folks...the economy may be troubled, but there are some good deals to be had out there.

Bonescraper, welcome to Swiss Army Knives! :D

I'll move this to the multitool forum. Enjoy that Explorer and consider picking up some of the smaller SAKs, too. I always have a Classic around, generally on my keychain, and the Bantam with a knife blade and a bottle opener, toothpick, & tweezers is a great, almost invisible, utility knife.

AWESOME. Thanks ESAV.

The only thing I wish it had was a SAW, as of lately I've been building a shelter out back in the woods, and I have to use a massive saw. Big & bulky. There aren't many Knife shops around here. Its very annoying!:grumpy: I have to get lucky when the Knife show rolls through to find the good stuff! Maybe I can find one on here! Thanks for the feedback guys.:thumbup::thumbup:;)

My favorite for the longest time has been the Victorinox Ranger. It was the "smallest" SAK I found with saw, file, and scissors, plus the usual everything else. :) I now have a Wenger with saw and scissors, and a nail file, which is really what I need most, and it is very compact, the Evo 18, yellow scales with black rubber inserts.

What you might look at for outdoors is the Victorinox locking One-hand Trekker. You can now get a plain-edge instead of the original with serrations at the tip. It is the larger size with a shaped handle, good for heavier work, and it has a super-size saw.

This what your talking about? I really like the one hand opening feature. Its PERFECT, Exactly what I need, And doesn't have a too much stuff on it, Nice and simple.

That's the one. Simplicity and strength. I got used to the forward serrations. For outdoor work, they are no problem.

Be careful, some of these guys are trying to pull you into the addiction.;) I haven't found the perfect SAK yet, but the Explorer is as close as I've gotten. Now attach a photon to it, and you'll have a very handy piece of kit.

Amazon is the cheapest place I've found for SAKs. I paid $31 for my Explorer Plus.

Yup. I put Photons on my OHT and my Evo 18.

We are getting some very strong winds here tonight, and the power has been flicking off and on for much of the evening. I feel nicely prepared with my SAK/Freedom Photon combo in my pocket.

i've carried my explorer EVERYDAY for the past year. not as long as some of the folks here but by far its my favorite edc. not too big, not too small, just enough tools and relatively comfortable in the pocket.

nice score man

Vic made a now-discontinued model called the "Woodsman" that was an Explorer with a saw. Here's a photo:

That explorer with the saw is awesome! Wonder why they discontinued it and not just the explorer.

That website is amazing Esav. SO MUCH SAK INFO!

I really like the custom work, Would he do G10 scales and add a clip? God that would be amazing. My dream SAK.
