Was the mechanic discontinued? It's no longer on the site.

They seem to have simplied their offerings a lit lately.

By yte way, there is no compact with a phillips, nor a spartan or tinker that come with plus scales, is there?

I'm not an expert so im not sure exactly what your 2nd question is but if your asking for slim with plastic scales, the Hiker has a Phillips.

But victorinox.com does not list the mechanic anymore. It seems to list a lot less knives than before.

My second question was whether there exists a compact with a philips in lieu of a corkscrew and whether there exists, from the factory, a spartan or tinker plus.

No, there is no Compact with a phillips. I've checked. If there was, I'd have one :-)

Thanks.

Problem with all my Compacts is that the scissors lose edge/tend to stick after repeated use. I've since switched back to a Spartan. If only they made them in Plus.

What about the Mechanic being discontinued as pero it mot being kisted on Victorinox.com?

As far as I know, there is only the Super Tinker (adds scissors) and the Deluxe Tinker (adds scissors + pliers) which I drool over daily.

Never really looked into the Spartan.

Get a deluxe tinker - you will love it. I carried a mechanic for quite a while until I found the Deluxe Tinker.
It is 1 layer thicker due to the scissors and I carry it in a belt pouch. The mechanic can be carried as a pocket knife.

BTW, on the Vic US site, they load their images from Victorinox.com, so I suspect the mechanic is still listed there also. I have
trouble with the Victorinox site with my browser (don't know why), so I use the swissarmy.com which is Vic's
North American site.

For anyone who likes SAKs, the best site for info is www.sakwiki.com everything you always wanted to know about
any SAK,current or discontinued).

I just looked at the entire 2013 Catalog. The Mechanic is not listed. It must be discontinued.

A lot of models are not in the catalog nor the site - so they discontinued a bunch. They seem to be simplifying their line.

Spider-man, are you looking for the knife or the explanation as to why you can't find it where you're looking?

Several members have pointed you in the right direction to obtain one yet you seem hung up on the fact that where you're looking it doesn't exist.

If you want the knife or a similar model available, click on the links provided, if your looking for answers why your favorite on line retailer no longer lists your knife, ask them, they're more likely to give you a answer, anything else is conjecture on our part.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

I have the knife. I was just curious as to whether, even though available, it was discontinued.

For some reason, I can't get on the US site. It keeps redirecting me to the Swiss site.

I noticed this too and also noticed that SAK suppliers have less models in stock. It looks like Victorinox is reducing the alox line and the officer line after they introduced the 111mm line. For the 111mm they've introduced new types of scales as well.
