A quick question. I'm thinking of adding a Victorinox Outrider SAK to the ole' collection. Is the lock release a sliding button or liner lock? Is it easy to use and secure? Every picture I've looked at only shows the one side. As well, any general comments about this SAK? I already own several Vics and like the quality. Knife can be viewed here:

AFAIK the only 111mm SAKs with a liner lock are the one-hand opening models, like the Trekker and Fireman. The ones with a regular nail nick should have the slide release.

I got an Outrider awhile back (it has a slider button). I wanted a robust, multi-function pocket knife as an occasional alternative to a pliers-based tool (I mostly edc a Spirit), and as a replacement for my 25 year old Huntsman.

I like the array of tools (basically the same as my Huntsman, minus the small knife blade), but it is usually a bit too big to be pocket carried. I have a cheap-o sheath, but I'd like to find a decent one for it.

BTW, my elderly Huntsman is still going strong, but I thought I'd put it away for my daughter when she's old enough.

Victorinox recently introduced some really neat-o belt pouches with clever rotating clips, and there's one that will fit your Outrider! Just check with FelineVet Tim by emailing him at felinevet@sosakonline.com and he'll provide you with the best choice/size/model, great prices and great service!

with pocket carry. I really like the 111mm locking folders from Vic. I have thought about replacing my Ruck with an OHT or Fireman. I have also looked at the Outrider, Locksmith, etc because while convenient the thumbhole is not a deal breaker with me. (Switching from the sliding lock to liner migh be but that is a different thread.) Back to the point. I'm leery of going to anything wider than a 3 layer 111mm. I prefer pocket carry and I see the Outrider or similiar as just too big. Since few brick and mortar shops carry a good range of this size Vic I haven't had the opportunity to personally handle one. Do you folks think I'm correct in my assumption that a 3 layer 111mm is about as wide as one should go for the pocket?

BenchmadeBoy, that model has the slider button for sure. In general, the red handled 111mm models have the slider and the black handled 111mm models have the liner lock.

Eyegor, it's really up to you. Some folks think that even a single spring 111mm is too large for pocket carry! I pocket carry a German Army OHT around the yard and when it slides horizontal it becomes uncomfortable.
