Victorinox Pioneer Solo Traditional Knife

I rediscovered these by accident. It is a super thin slip joint (same thinness as a Vic Cadet or Buck Solitaire). The action is smooth as silk, the walk and talk enviable. It has a useful 2.75 inch blade but disappears in the pocket.

it was only $23 new.

I thought they were discontinued?

I do remember the alox settler like the above but with a second pen blade. Also so thin it disappeared in the pocket.

I have one. They possess a very classy feel. Think how nice it would be to have one in even 440C.

If I can find some of the other colors I’m going to buy a few more.
The colored ones are quite pricey, I think it is because they are dealer exclusives, not sold in the USA. If you do track down a reasonably priced source, please let me know.

Carl, I think the Solo is back, but now called a Victorinox "Swiss Army 1". I bought one with a gift card my co-workers gave me when I retired almost 2 years ago. (I'd like to find one of the Pioneer Settlers some day!:cool::thumbsup:)

The Pioneer Settler (I didn't know the name before today) is a sweet knife. I lucked upon one at a gun show, a fella had a bunch of discontinued SAK's at a discount. Being single spring, it has the same form factor as the Pioneer Solo, with just a little extra weight.

I recently picked up a solo as well. It’s a nice knife, perfect size and a nice strong back spring. I agree about the Settlers, a pen blade would make it even better. Anyone have the pruner? I think it’s just a solo with a pruning blade added.

If they did bring them back like I seem to recall I'll be adding one to the list, I just gotta remember what they call them now.

I didn’t know they made that. Very cool! Might have to try that one.

Edited to add: not seeing any except on the bay.

Cutleryshoppe told me they think it is no longer imported into the US. But we need to check that alternate name Swiss Army 1.

I had been wanting one for a year or more and I finally got one a few months ago. I like mine a lot but the blade is off center quite a bit. Someone suggested to me that the off centered blade is why it's advertised as the Pioneer Solo and not just the Solo.

As I understand it, the Pioneer Solos are made with the same blade that Victorinox uses on the Pioneer. It's crinked to allow room for the other implement which would explain the off centered blade. My blade doesn't rub on anything and it's a great knife. I'm glad I finally got one.

I see that Amazon.com has the silver Solo listed as Pioneer Solo, as Swiss Army 1, and as Victorinox Solo, currently. I do not see any colored ones at present.

This knife is simply great to drop down into a pocket and forget it is there. It also has a nice feel for those who like to jingle and fidget with stuff in their pockets.

I did not see any on Amazon Australia or India.
