From what I've learned, the Solo is 108mm and the Alox Solo is 93mm. What I can't find out is the blade size on the two units. I'm assuming they are not the same, but maybe they are. Does anyone know the size of each?

Not 100% sure on the exact blade length, but I can ask in another forum and find out for you. They are definitely not the same size. The 108mm Solo is larger. I really like the 108mm solo's.

Alright here it is.

ALOX Solo = 7cm from the base, 6.4cm cutting edge.

108mm Solo = 8.2cm from the base, 7.2cm cutting edge.

Thanks. Love the looks of the Alox better, but would enjoy the longer blade length of the other. I think this is the 1st time I've researched a Vic where the Alox version is so much different than the non-Alox version.

Well as always my first suggestion is to buy them both. ;)

Honestly the alox solo is nice and I am a huge alox fan, but the 108mm solo is very nice as well. If you have never had a 108mm you should get one. I only really buy one layer alox for collection purposes. Don't really ever use them. The 93mm solo feels more substantial then the 84mm bantams though. The 108mm Solo on the other hand is hand filling and there is something about the scales they use on them that is very nice. The blade is substantial and all the 108mm solo's I have had have incredibly strong snap. I guess the extra size backspring provides that. Cant go wrong either way though. I believe the 108mm solo was recently discontinued so if you are thinking of getting one I would do it sooner then later before the stock runs out. I could possibly be wrong about them being discontinued though.

Remember, on the 108mm's there's a SOLO and a SOLO Plus which adds a reamer and corkscrew on the backside.

I have several SOLO Plus and just recently bought a reg SOLO...it is enroute. The reg SOLO are harder to find.

I'm like Cap...I collect the SOLO's but never carry one...even in ALOX.

This thread needs a pic!

I prefer the 108mm Solo. It has excellent scales. They provide a lot of grip, especially when it's cold or wet that's a great thing. Also the scales are rounded, which makes them very comfortable to carry them in the pocket.

Here's a comparison picture of one of my 108mm Solo's and the only alox Solo that I got.

I was on the verge of getting the Alox version, but after seeing this, I like the added blade size of the other one. I prefer the looks of the Alox, but the other one doesn't look too bad. Can you take another photo of the thickness comparison?
