I recently purchased a Swiss tool spirit x and while it is a well made tool, I do not like it at all. This is not a Troll thread, its just my honest opinion. First of all, I love Victorinox just as much, if not more, than most. I carry a Swiss army knife on me at all time and will continue to do so. That being said, the Spirit X model is not for me. The tool is slippery in hand and the blade is hard to get out and the scissors SUCK, I say that with a Capital S. I dont understand why it is so popular. The reason I bought it was because it had an Awl and Scissors but anyway that is my opinion. I can see so many ways that it could have been made better, like make it more grippier and make the blade easier to access. The Scissors do not hardly open nearly wide enough, Why? Also it cost me nearly Ninety dollars. Not worth the money in my opinion. Still, I love Vics and will always love them but not that one. It will become a Safe Queen now. Just my opinion, sorry guys.

My impression of the Swisstool Spirit is much the same as yours, but this is really an individual matter. After a pretty good trial period, I gave up on mine and passed it on to my brother, an avid DIYer. He loves it. Go figure.

The version of the Spirit I have has a second knife blade in place of the scissors. For me, it's my favorite pliers-based multi-tool. Like I mentioned in another thread, my only complaint about it is the poor Velcro fastener on the sheath. I like the way the handles curve; that makes the tools easier to access than on the regular Swisstool.

But not everybody has to like the same things. We all find what suits us and what doesn't. I've used a bunch of Leathermans and found the Spirit suits my purposes much better. It's great that we have the variety to choose from.

I love mine, it's definitely my favourite multi tool. Feels solid and reliable, not had a problem with the scissors so far. I bought it for the awl, chisel/pry bar, saw and file combo. I also have a Leatherman Wave and a couple of Gerbers. I think the quality of the Victorinox is superb. As mentioned above, we're lucky to have such a variety of tools and manufacturers to chose from.

Anyway, if you don't like the Swiss Tool Spirit, that gives you an excellent reason to buy another multi tool to try out! ;).

I got mine because of its top quality and vesatility - however, it spends almost all its time in my office bag or flight bag, while my back pocket Vic Huntsman or my coat pocket Vic Safari get all the work. Still, it's a comfort just knowing such a fine, well-made multitool is available to me should I ever need it.

I too have a swisstool. Not the spirit. Mine
Doesn't have scissors. I like it. But not enough
To carry. I mostly use the Phillips screwdriver and the pliers.

Nicely made but yes....slippery if your hands are wet.

Not sure if I would buy it again but not upset with it
Either.

Although I don't like it. Like I said before, it is a very well made tool. The scissors and hard access to the blade is my biggest complaints and yes I dont get the Velcro closer on the sheath also. That being said, I have no complaints on any of there other tools or knives, LOVE THEM!!!!

I used the Spirit X for a few years and never had a problem.
It blew my leatherman out of the water. Great quality.
I guess the Velcro is a lil annoying though.

I've got the Swisstool X too. I'm happy with it. It's very well made and has a load of functional tools. Victorinox's scissors are the best ones found on a multitool.

Only thing I don't like are the polished and slippery phillips screwdriver. It's a bit too big and heavy though, so it only gets carried in the backpack.

I edc my Spirit. I agree about the scissors, i finally modded my scissors which did help. Victorinox does make the best scissors in the business unfortunately they left those OFF the Spirit model.
However I do personally find the Spirit's blade to be easily accessible.

Having used the full-sized Swisstool X and the Spirit X, I agree, at least about the scissors. The Spirit is lighter and more "ergonomic" but the tiny scissors, and the odd hook at the bottom of the awl were the deal breakers that drove me back to the full-size Swisstool.

Besides the Spirit i also have the full sized Swisstool. I love it but don't carry because i find its a nail killer/splitter. For me the nail nicks are buried too deep inside. At least the nail nicks on the Spirit are easily accessible.
Honestly i wish both had pocket clips and possibly lanyard rings.

I've tried lots of multitools, and so far the Spirit seems to be the one best suited to my personal needs. It has everything I might need (even a corkscrew with the little eyeglass screwdriver). I've use mine so much that Im considering buying a new one, since it's quite beaten up.

However, I do agree about the scissors. Even the ones on my Wenger Pocket Tool Chest or Vic Executive are larger. I don't understand why they decided to mess with the traditional Victorinox scissors.

I'm kind of in the middle on this one. It's a nicely made tool overall, but the small blade, odd scissors and lack of a diamond file make it less useful than my Charge. And like others here, I also have an issue with the slippery body. I ended up tossing mine in the bug-out bag. It won't be used there, but I'll have a good tool if I need it.

As far as the value, there has been a major price drop recently and the Spirit X is selling for around $55 shipped in a few places. So you get very good quality for not a lot of coin.

One more thing to add is that the Victorinox multi tools are supposed to be much more rust resistant than the Leathermans. Not an issue with normal use, but could be outdoors.

You paid almost $90.00 for it?. You can find them for a hell of alot cheaper than that.

What don't you like about the scissors? I understand not liking the tool for personal reasons, I've grown less and less fond of it over the last year and no longer carry it regularly (it goes in the backpack now whereas it used to be my FLP EDC) but I always loved the scissors! Were they not sharp on yours or do they just not open wide enough for you?

I have both the full size and spirit models of the X as well as 3 leathermans, I think the Vic feels much sturdier and well made, I like the scissors quite a bit, just as much as the regular SAK scissors, much better than any other multitool scissors. I will agree though that some texture/grip could be added to the pliers handles, though leatherman could as well. I also wish it had exchangable cutters like the ST300 and one hand opening like the wave, although I feel Vic tools are just as easy to get out as leatherman tools.

If I may jump in here... As another guy who didn't care much for the Spirit, the scissors were among my big complaints. Yeah, sharp alright, but they were much too small and didn't open wide enough. They were about equal to the Classic scissors, which had a better excuse for being so tiny. Big disappointment. What could it be used for except to snip fishing line or the occasional loose thread?

OTOH, among the things I actually liked on the Spirit was the much disrespected blade. I think too many people were put off by its appearance before giving it a chance.
