Vietnam tomahawks... original or not?

Ok, this definitely sounds like someone buried a bunch of reproductions or modern reissues in their backyard.

Agreed.... the story becomes more implausible as each layer of the onion is peeled away. The measurements of the post-Vietnam tomahawks are different.... though some of the differences are more subtle than others, precise measurements of the Tomahawk head at ten set points will uncover a lot.

I am still hopeful that one of our forum members will help us establish the baseline measurements for the original Vietnam war production tomahawks.

CASE CLOSED: The eBay seller will only provide a single measurement of the head.... its “about 8”.. and no other dimensions. Unfortunately, most of the LaGana heads are “about 8”. It was interesting to see if they would provide the 10 head dimensions I requested. Their failure to do so seems to confirm the obvious conclusion about the authenticity of the rehafted pair of tomahawks! Thanks for the feedback from the forum members.

We still need someone willing to provide base measurements on a confirmed early model.

UPDATE: to his credit, the eBay seller did take the time to provide detailed measurements of his two purportedly “original” tomahawk heads. Thanks to forum member Dusty One (who provided detailed measurements of three original LaGana tomahawk heads in his collection) it is possible to determine that the measurements of the “restored” (wirebrushed) tomahawks offered on EBay are inconsistent with the Vietnam era originals. Measurements on the eBay heads are at several points both shorter or longer than the original tomahawks used for comparison, and the extent of the differences can not be explained by the wirebrushing, or small differences when taking measurements. As such, it is a reasonable conclusion that the restored tomahawks being offered are not original LaGana Vietnam Tomahawks.

Thanks to Dusty One and others that provided feedback...

Confirms my exact suspicions based solely on the rust alone.
