One of my recent knives, an Anton Wingen / Othello fixed blade probably dating from the '60's or '70's, but as you can see still in very good condition.
The thick blade is made from polished carbon steel (not visible in the pics but it has some greying near the point)
Puma made a line of similar knives in those days which were called "Scout knives".
The leather sheath was bone dry, so i cleaned it with leather cleaner and rubbed it with Granger's beeswax.

Weight: 328 grams
Blade thickness: max 6,0 mm

Now that's how its done!
Gorgeous old skool steel and stag!

That's a good-lookin' knife.

Looking at that one, it reminds me of a couple of A.G. Russell 'Crocodile Hunter' knives I'd bought back in the '90s. The blades were longer, but the guard in particular, and the shape/hafting of the stag & spacers immediately behind it, look remarkably similar. Makes me wonder if they were made in the same shop (the AGR is a Solingen-made knife, too).

Wish I still had those knives (they were taken from my house in a burglary :( ).

There is a good chance that A.G.Russel had those "Crocodile Hunter" knives made by Anton Wingen, just as he did with those Sting daggers.
I got this knife from a Dutch auction website, just as at least 2 other guys on the Dutch knife forum.
The seller claims he still has a few more of these, so i'm currently bidding on number 2, :-)

That's good to know, thank you.

I've seen some Anton Wingen knives on the 'auction site', and wondered what the quality was like. Based on what I see here, they look darn good, at least in these vintages. I know the Russell knives were first-rate & really impressive (and HEAVY!). The blades were even forged, as I recall.

Anton Wingen quality is very high, and imo comparable with vintage Puma knives, a brand that i also collect.
One of Wingens specialties was drop-forging stainless steel, just as they did with the Sting models.
Just as with Puma, these "Scout" knives weren't even their top of the line products, but they're still very well made.

At the moment this is my only other Anton Wingen knife, a small dagger that was part of their more upscale line.
The blade is most likely drop-forged, while the handle consists of polished Micarta & brass.
Fit & finish is close to custom quality.

I agree totally with Kwackster, Anton Wingen Jr.'s quality is right up there, the only others comparable were Puma and Linder.
Kwacksters Othello also has the nicer Quillon-type guard option as well...lovely knife.
