How can you tell that? Because you know when this specific knife was made. The next one is more confusing to me than this one. Would you know much about this?

Now, I am by NO means an expert, but I'm sure a couple will be along in a bit :)

That second knife is a Case Bowie knife. Very hard to read on my screen but the tang stamp is from the decade of the 1980's and it APPEARS to have five dots, which would make it 1985. OH

Thank you! On the Bowie, It might be 6 dots (3 on each side). So, it’s an 86. How do I figure out what I should I ask on that one.
It goes to Mom but my dad was very frugal so I want to do everything right.

Jenny, on Case Knives the dots run opposite the year. This started in 1970 and ran to 1979, then was repeated in 1980 - 1989, etc. (with the exception of the first three to four years of the 1990's). Each decade the tang stamp changes and Case will start over with ten dots (or a combination of dots and X's in the 21st Century). 1970, 1980, 2000, 2010, 2020 all have ten dots or ten dots/x's. Each year afterwards one dot or X is dropped, so 1971 or 1981 will have nine dots, 1972 or 1982 will have eight dots, etc. A six dot knife with your tang stamp would be 1984 (a four dot knife with your tang stamp would be made in 1986). It is all explained on the Case Knives website (with pictures). As to value, the very best indicator would be to check eBay or other sale websites for completed auctions - that is the real indicator of what a buyer will pay. You have the box, papers, and sheath, as well as the knife - if it is mint and unblemished it will command the highest price. OH

You are very kind and very helpful. My mom and I appreciate you very much!!!
I’m in over my head and kindness like this means a lot!!!

I can do PayPal, Venmo, or I can set up whatever you want. I need help with how to ship, insure, and to make sure I get it to you safely since it means that much to you.
We’re the pictures I sent to you okay?

Pictures in thread are fine, haven't checked email today,....yet. Will see if the ole Paypal is working also. The best shipping in my opinion and situation is via USPS Priority Package. Knife in sheath get your free box at post office, crumple up some old newspapers so knife doesn't move around. If you use one of the Priority marked big envelopes fold up knife in at least 1/4 inch of newspapers. When you sell your Case knife there is more value protect it more. If a knife has a factory box either leave knife in box and use newspapers, foam, or clear bubble wrap to protect it before placing in box and especially the Priority envelope. Seal up extra with tape. Use Sharpie to write address. Don't write Knives on outside. Don't try to do this in Post Office take the box or envelope out to car or home to package knives up. They get nervous in Post Offices. I have sent at least two dozen knives out this way and never lost a one. I was a collector not a reseller. Once someone sent me ten collector knives to photograph for them and I added extra insurance sending them back because they were so rare. The priority insurance will be find for the 120. If you have anymore questions just use my Blade Forum private mail to ask. Will send you Paypal info this afternoon. People can read way of talking, you have a Blade Forum Private mail box in the items listed under you forum name at the top of the page. You have to be logged in to see the spot. 300Bucks, Craig H. (In Oklahoma)
