I'm hoping that you Case experts can help me on this. I grew up about 40 miles from Bradford, but I'm pretty new to the collecting scene. Saw this in a local antique store. The tang stamp puts it 1940-64. It's in decent shape, but before I pull the trigger, I thought I'd ask a few questions.

What model is this?

Is the hole in the bolster original? Was there a clip there?

Did I come with a sheath? This one has a nice, form-fitting leather sheath.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Looks like a folding hunter. I didn't know what it was either until someone ID'd one of my dad's knives.

Looks like a 6265 Folding Hunter with a Saber ground blade. The hole in the bolster is from the factory and is designed for attaching a lanyard if desired.

According to information I found on a quick search, 1940-1964 models will only have the lanyard hole on the 1964 production year. If that's the case then the pictured knife should have a pattern number.

Is there a pattern number stamped on either blade tang? Are you sure about the date?

Thanks for the replies. I think you're right in that it is a folding hunter. I only got a quick look at it and the one picture. But, in looking at the picture again, it clearly had CASE XX on the same line. I think it had U.S.A. on the next line, Which would date it 1965-69. I'm pretty sure that there was a pattern number on it, but I didn't write it down. The leather sheath that was with it is really nice and fits like a glove. The knife was in great shape with super sharp blades and the bone was great with very little wear. I think it just needs some TLC. It's been there for awhile and I don't think it's going anywhere. I'll get a better look at it next week. Thanks again.

Thats a usa folding hunter makes sure thats no jigged wood instead of bone they used 6 back then for both . It did have a holster you can see it was in one for a long time the green on the bolster is caused by that also lots of usa folding hunters had lanyard holes no clip you can tell by the tall skinny s thats a 65 66 made knife the later ones had a squated s. If you need any more info email me .

Thanks. I think it may be wood instead of bone (as it was advertised). Given that, it doesn't sound like a great find. It is in pretty good shape.

With the 'U.S.A.' below the CASE XX, it would indeed be 1965 - 1969 era. The earlier '40-'64 tang stamp would have the 'XX' on a separate line below the 'CASE' name, and no 'U.S.A.' mark at all. Should be a '6265 SAB' pattern stamp on the reverse side of the main (clip) blade's tang. The frame is a carryover from the '40-'64 era (known as 'XX era' frame), as indicated by the narrower cut in the handle immediately aft of the forward bolster. Due to that combination of the XX-era frame and the 'U.S.A.' on the tang stamp, it's safe to assume it was manufactured very nearly to 1965 specifically, as that was a transition year between the two frame styles. Subsequent knives in the '65-'69 era transitioned to the 'U.S.A.' frame (not as deeply cut aft of the bolster), which is what's on the same pattern even today. The handles are Case's 'Staminawood', which is a stabilized wood laminate.

I have one exactly like your pictured knife ('XX era' frame and 'U.S.A.' tang stamp), so I'm familiar with it. A couple pics of mine below:
