Just joined and was wondering how many members collect or share my interest in Puma knives of new or older vintage? As I understand it the older variety were made with high chromed carbon steels later switched to stainless in more recent years. Held onto my Skinner made in 1966 according to stampings on handguard. Have noticed the older models are selling for big bucks on E-Bay. Believe I paid around $25 for it back around 67-68. Just wish I had the bucks back then to purchase the White Hunter also!!! Would like to hear opinions from others.

I have a couple and I have been liquidating an old friends old puma collection for him slowly.
For my taste, they are too rough in finish.
I have never used one, but I'm sure they work great.
To me, Puma has always made no frills hunting knives and they still do.
Stag was big back in the day, so lots of stag handles. If you ask me, stag is probably one of the worst materials for a heavy use knife. It cracks and chips and is fragile.

I have a Puma Game Warden that was made in 1972 and it is a great knife. It is my EDC when not at work or around sheeple. Great knife, stainless blades and sharpens like a razor with pretty good edge retention.

I have a couple folders from the 70's but they are never carried anymore----they spend their time back in the green and yellow plastic containers now.

Do a search on the forum and you'll turn up lots of threads. The Traditional and Bernard Levine Collecting forum are where most posts of interest (other than for sale) should be found.

Thanks for the response. Am familiar with a few of the threads. I know one gives a chart with codes and dates of manufacture. Glad I had the sense to safeguard mine all these years. Carbon Pumamaster steel ones goin for good bucks on E-Bay

Must be nice to have some custom blades. Bet they are all awesome looking too. I recall even as a kid a Puma was a great knife to own. Many of these knives either custom or not make great heirlooms to pass down to family who appreciates them.

I've had a few over the years and have a mint 1974 stag boot knife with the original sheath, also have a 745 4 star folder from 1979, and a newer Hein custom folder with a saw 1994 I think. They are solid , and the steel holds a nice edge.

I have a white hunter from the 70s from my father. Marvelous blade, but it's retired as a keepsake.
