I was wondering if anyone knew any law about carrying a knife in virginia if you are under 18

As a general rule, minors just follow the same rules as adults. Only difference is that there is a law that makes it illegal to sell or give bowie knives, dagger and a few other non-knife weapons to minors.

If it's a folding knife, it's fine. No length limit unless one is mandated by county or city (rarely). Fixed blades are best carried openly.

Hold on, we're talking about minors here. Minors are subject to "Zero Tolerance" policies sometimes even outside of school property. Possession of any knives, even accidentally or unknowingly can result in arrest, criminal prosecution as well as suspension or expulsion from school. This can affect your future if you want to go to college, join the military, or law enforcement.

The OP should consult advice from within his own state, county and city to be certain.

I would really like to see a Supreme Court case where school policy in and of itself (without any corresponding statutory law) was allowed to have the ability to be enforce itself via the state's criminal courts for conduct that occurred off school grounds.

In any event, my previous statement stands as it is based directly on the statutes of Virginia's state law (18.2-308 and 18.2-309). The latter law is about furnishing certain knives to minors, but it affects the furnisher, not the minor.

Yes, it is possible for county and city laws to be stricter than those of the state, so it is up to the OP to look those up if he does not supply them on this forum. All such laws should be available online at no cost.

For adults in VA the blade has to be under 4 inches if it's concealed. Other than that it's pretty much the same rules as everywhere else, no switch blades, balisongs, double edge (dagger) or balistic knives. Pretty sure the same rules apply to minors.
