Is it possible to visit the factory? I'm going to Taichung with my mom and aunt to visit some family friends, and I would love to tour the Spyderco factory there. Has anyone already done this?

Contact Spyderco, please! Find out. If you go, take a LOT of pictures and post them. I want to see and I am sure everyone else does too.

Spyderco does not have a factory in Taichung. The only Spyderco factory is in Golden. All the other factories around the world are contract knife makers. They make knives for Spdyerco and others. In order to tour the Taichung factory, you need to know it's name, which I don't believe Spdyerco has divulged. You maybe able to find out through a good internet search.

I've contacted Spyderco via their messaging system on their site and I am now awaiting a response. I would love to see the magic behind the curtains, and I would share if Spyderco allows. Sit tight...

Oh brown shoe... how you are very wrong Taiwan has two separate factories one in Taipei and one in Taichung. Maybe they haven't released the exact location but there are indeed 2 factories there. Also there are 2 factories in Japan(seki and moki) also a factory in Italy, one in China and there's also the Golden plant in CO..

Looks like YOU yourself need to do some research...

Brownshoe is correct. The only factory Spyderco owns is the Golden, CO factory. All of their knives coming out of Japan, Taiwan, China and Italy are made for Spyderco by other makers under contract. Spyderco does not own or manage these production facilities, although they are responsible for design and QC.

About the Japan factories - there are many knife producers in Japan and the majority are concentrated in Seki City, Japan. Moki is one of them. Here is an old thread about Seki City from 2004 in which Sal states that Spyderco uses six knife makers from Seki City:

The address on their website is different than the address provided to US Customs:

No.30, Aly. 37, Ln. 503, Sec. 3, Xinan Rd., Wuri Dist., Taichung City 414, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

Hi Shimo,

I do not think you will be able to tour the Taichung plant. Especially if they're working on Spyderco knives. All of that information is proprietary.
