I like Vodka. I didn't really start to appreciate Vodka till lately. A couple of friends from the Eastern Block decided to educate me on the nuances of Vodka. I have sipped some vodka's from Poland, Russia, Finland. Everyone has their favorites. Most people I talk too say vodka is only good for mixing. But the Men from Poland and Russia tend to disagree. I was drinking Belvedere and Stolichnaya but looking for something else.

Then came a across a vodka called V5 made in the USA. It was very clean. My wife used some to make Vanilla extract. ..My search is for a Vodka clean and smooth like mineral water.

I have read that Chopin and Russian Standard are also great vodka's to try.

What are your Favorites?

I, too, love Vodka. I drink it and also use it when making ice cream. An ounce or two of Vodka works wonders to smooth out home made IC and make it really creamy. And, at my age, 75, my taste buds have a hard time telling the difference between super high priced Scotch and rubbing alcohol. So I now buy the cheap 'house brand' Vodkas and Rums at my local supermarket.

Tito's Vodka from Texas -- exceptional taste for the $$. If money is no object then I fall into the large Grey Goose fan club.

Tito's. The Visitor Reviews at vodkaphiles.com give it 4.54 stars (out of 5) with 41 reviews.

I've also become a fan of an inexpensive potato vodka from Norway called Viking Fjord. (4.76 out of 5 with 21 reviews).

My roomate suggested Russian Standard, I was surprised at how smooth it was. Just finished off a bottle yesterday it's good stuff.

here's a vodka tip I tried and it actually works - run cheap vodka through a Brita filter a couple times and it becomes entirely drinkable!

But generally I like Gray Goose

Potato based, great taste, smooth finish.

Crater Lake Vodka.

Amen to both.

Vodka shouldn't be "clean." It should have taste and character. Too many grain vodkas, like Grey Goose, are just characterless. A potato vodka has character. And Crater Lake is an excellent example. Right now, as I type, I'm on my third Spudka martini for the evening and it is great with Vya vermouth, great character. Luksusova is another great, potato vodka, IMHO, from Poland.

And here is a vodka tip that does actually work: keep your vodka in the freezer (being 80ish proof it won't freeze in a household freezer). Cold brings out the character and the flavor of vodka. This is what is meant by a "properly chilled martini."

Two of my favorites were Siwucha and Russian Green Label.
I was never a big vodka drinker but those two were good ones.
