So I am trying my hand at making a wakizashi and have a question.

I am using 3/4 round W1 and have it down to about 1” wide and 3/8 thick. At what point do I start my bevels?

I was thinking starting them now or flattening some more and just grinding them. I was gonna shoot for a width of 1 1/4 or so and thickness between 1/4 and 5/16.

Sound about right or am I completely out to lunch?

JW, how wide do they tend to be at the widest spot?

I can't get onto their site right now, but google for the Kashima Sisters site. They sell antique swords, and usually list very detailed measurements including thickness and width at various points on the blade.

That really depends on how many times they've been polished and sharpened. My Rescue wak is maybe an inch or an inch plus at the habaki, and the reeeeeaally old one (on the bottom) is about the same
