(i hope this is the right section for this thread - please move if not)

hello everyone,

i am planning my own custom made wall mounted knife display case (oak panel frame, glass front, light grey alcantara covered background, custom aluminium/acryl led lightning)

how would you attach the knifes to the alcantara covered background? (for the best modularity eg. change setup for different knifes)

i was thinking steel plate behind the alcantara - then use some round magnets with threads - stainless screws wrapped with silicone hoses

any better ideas? suggestions?

finally -- please scroll down for more pics :)

If we are talking a display case I probably have foam in it that presses up against the glass and put the knives in it so it is held in place when you put it together. Hope that makes sense.

i had a few sketches for a narrow shelf design - but i prefer the knives to really "stand out" from a flat, light colored alcantara background

first i have to try whether the magnets adhere to the background strong enough if there is the alcantara fabric between the magnets and the steel plate

anyone got any pictures of good display cases?

You can get plenty strong magnets at Harbor Freight or most hardware stores. I would cover the magnet where it touches the knife with fine cheesecloth to prevent marring.

the magnets i have in mind are round and have a centered thread for a M4 screw - i would put a stainless screw in and wrap a silicone hose around the screw - the magnets would/should adhere to the background and the knives would rest on the silicone covered screw - the background is at an 10degre angle so the back of the knives rest against the alcantara and the bottom/handles/blades rest on the screws and are protected by the silicone - but you are right maybe also the magnet-bases should be covered somehow although they are just 1inch in diameter

Like cutlerylover's setup??
I think he has a video up about how he did it.

gotta search for that

I found this display case maker on EBAY.. At first i was worried with the idea that the GLASS WOULD HOLD the knives in place. I DID NOT want scratching or marring of any kind, but to be honest I AM EXTREMLY happy with it and i believe it wont cause any scratches unless you shook the case.. My case olds the KNIVES all in place when wall mounted..

I am very please with it and actually order 3 more.. They run about 80$ a piece plus shipping (depends on sizes and he will do custom work at very small increase in cost)

EMAIL ME IF U WANT HIS INFO

Very nice. And here I keep my fixed blades in a drawer and folders in a folding nylon knife case thingy.
