Hello all! I'm in search of a Christmas present for my blade loving hubby. He has quite the collection brewing and I would like to get a nice wooden display case for the wall. I see there are cases that separate each knife with a felt formed insert and then ones that hold knives all together. Which type is best? Has anyone ordered a case like this online? Any recommendations?

I did find this thread but it wasn't exactly what I was searching for:

Any ideas much appreciated!

I buy my cases from Woodland Products, they advertise in Blade Magazine. I have been very pleased with the quality of their work and their very reasonable prices.

From Blade Magazine:
DISPLAY CASES: Oak, Walnut, wood, glass, standard or custom sizes. 28 page catalog. Send $1. Woodland Products, 61292 CR 7, Elkhart, IN 46517

dorris wood creations.

Hey Guys..

Mori...

That's Sweet..
I'll take the second last from the bottom...
Is that a Mean Street or a Lean Mean street???

I may have a sheath fro it you can have..

Bladewife....

Although that case is really nice..

If I were to get a case I'd get a curio (SP?) cabinet that stands on the floor...

If he's got any kind of a collection,, he's going to need the real estate for them..
Multi tier is the only way to go...

A custom one might be done by local cabinet maker, I made mine, and I am not a professional. I routed grooves in the uprights then had glass shelves cut. But a good cabinet maker could make one the size you may want.

Something you might want to consider ... some people prefer not to put knives on display, where they're easily found by an intruder and stolen, or even possibly used as a weapon against you and your family.

Ain't knockin' it ... just make sure you and your family are comfortable with it.

I appreciate your comments, but I am an old guy, and that collection has been in the making for forty plus years. It was mentioned previously about being cautious about displays. I am, the room that it is in is alarmed separately by my alarm system, not even the grands go in without supervision and alarm off.
In my town the local response time is under 3 minutes. Doubt anyone could get in house, much less hidden media room (where knives are) in that time and load up. I also have two outside sirens inside my room where the decibel level will actually break eardrums. I am very cautious about my 40 years of collecting.
But the man was right, make sure it is secure and everyone in family knows it is off limits, unless Dad unlocks and shows.

Thanks again,
James

PS: It is an addiction, more costly than drugs. Set a budget.

Thanks everyone for your ideas! I like the wall unit. My husband has about 40 knives and I'm guessing the collection will only grow. Mori - beautiful cabinets. I'll let you all know what I end up with! Keep the ideas coming... I haven't made any decisions yet! :)
