Wallet: Front pocket or rear pocket carry?

I've only lost one wallet in my life (at age 8). I figure the biggest reason is that I've carried my wallet in my right front pocket since I was a teenager. However, sometimes I wish I could convince myself to carry it in my back pocket so I could make for room for other gear in my front pocket.

1. Do you carry your pocket in a front or rear wallet?
2. If you carry it in front, do you do so for security purposes?

I've been carrying mine in front for a few years now, for 2 reasons:

The first like you, for security reasons. I've had wallets fall out of my rear pocket before... The other is for comfort. Since I work in an office environment, I spend most of my time sitting on my butt. My wallet never bothered me, but the first time I put it in my front pocket, I really noticed the difference in comfort, and I've never been able to go back.

I'd also like to find an alternative, to recover the front pocket for gadgets. In the interim, I built myself a gadget case that lets me easily carry 6 items in my left front pocket (if you do a search on my user name you'll find pics), leaving the right front for the wallet. I also carry my SAK and Pocket Wrench in a belt pouch, and folder IWB, so I really can't complain. Any more stuff and I'll need suspenders to keep the pants up

Always in my rear pocket, but I've sometimes switched to the front in certain situations, traveling by subway for instance. Only once have I lost a wallet, perhaps 25 years ago, and I later found it. It was a cheap nylon billfold that was always creeping out.

Front pocket. I can't stand sitting on a lump. Anyway, I can fit a SAK on one side of my wallet in most of my pants and a flashlight on the other side. That leaves me with my front left pocket almost empty. So, I don't find myself running out of pockets.

Denix, do you think you could find the pics of your gadget case and post a link here? I've searched and can't find it with BF's cruddy search engine, and a Google search didn't do any better.

Thanks.

The placement of wallet varies but 55% of the time I carry my wallet in the back pocket. It goes there generally out of habit. The times I do carry it in the front pocket is usually to obtain comfort or style. I don't like sitting on my wallet so if I have a long drive I put it in my front pocket. When I dress up or want to be appear more formal I put the wallet in the front pocket (or breast pocket of a jacket if applicable) so that it doesn't print or cause any kind of bulge from my arse.

I've always been tempted though to get a mission wallet or something similar if it exists in order to combine my wallet with the stuff I carry. For whatever reason I've just never set out to try it.

rear pocket. No security concers since i don't wear jeans. Both my formal and casual pants have pockets that velcro or button shut.

Edit: I just noticed that Sithjedi333 found it.

I've made several variants over the years, depending on what I carry at the moment. It's pretty crude, but it does a nice job of carrying lots of gear. Loose pleated pants mandatory though. My wife keeps buying me silly metrosexual-ajusted pants (likes the way it shapes my butt she says:rolleyes: ). Can't put anything in the pockets without creating a hugh bulge. I told her I'd be buying my own pants from now on. :D

Always my rear pocket and the same with my cell phone...I dont like having a bulge in my front pockets and dont like it rubbing on my leg. I guess i just got used to not having anything in my front pockets and so i always feel uncomfortable with something in it. Although when i travel on a subway or crowded areas i always throw it in my zippered jacket pocket or my front pocket.

Why not carry a man purse and free up all your pockets? :D

I carry in a rear pocket, though I have been known to put my wallet in a front pocket in crowded or suspect places.

Guyon,

I'm always trying to convince myself that I'm secure enough in my masculinity to carry a 'murse' but I have yet to follow through. I even have a couple of small-ish messenger-type bags that would do the trick, but I just can't get myself to take the leap.

Here're the bags I own. I find them both well-made and very handy the times I've used them (usually when traveling or attending an event where everyone is carrying a bag, like a festival or outdoor market).

I usually carry my wallet in my left rear pocket attached with a removable chain. I also carry a separate wallet in my right rear pocket with my badge, ID, and certification cards as well as a pic of the wife and kids. I have never lost a wallet and I hope I never do. I don't carry my wallets at work. I only carry my drivers license. I may switch to a front pocket wallet if I can find one thin enough to carry all of my cards and cash.

I've told this story here before, but it's worth repeating. A friend and I once debated which pocket was best for the wallet. Front or back. I said front, he said back. His reasoning was that with his shirt untucked, no one could get his wallet out.

I told him not to bet on it, that I'd have his wallet by the end of the day. I had his wallet within 10 minutes of the conversation. Lunch time came and he freaked out and said "I think I lost my wallet." I smiled and handed it to him. He put it in his front pocket.

Besides being safer, it's just a lot more comfortable. I keep spare keys in my wallet, I don't really want to sit on those.

I carry a fairly large wallet (Spec Ops THE wallet... the little one) and an Alox scaled SAK in the left pocket and never feel like I have too much. The right pocket is usually empty other than my cell phone in the watch pocket (if there is a watch pocket) and a clipped folder and some change down in the bottom.

I wear cargo pants at work and keep my glasses case on one side and a small notebook in the other. There's never anything in my back pocket. Don't know why. I just never put anything back there... don't want to disrupt the lines of my sexy arse.

Back right pocket for jeans (most days), right side cargo when wearing cargos, left breast pocket if in a suit. Never lost a wallet & no problems sitting on mine (I sit 10-11hrs a day at work) as it's maybe 1/4" thick (3 cards & a couple of scaps of paper one side, two cards + a security card on the other side- nothing else, I carry bills loose in my front right pocket).

As others here if travelling or concerned I will carry it in my front pocket but it just plain feels wrong (usually use a small folder as a money clip when wearing a suit).

Front (left). I could never have it in the back unless I had a significant portion of my butt cheek surgically removed so I could sit properly.
