The Prodigy for Walmart is an exclusive in that the blade has no serrations. Anyone have one. Opinions. Thinking about one before no more as I think Gerber is discontinuing.

I don't have a Prodigy, but it's quite similar to the Strongarm, which I do have. If you like it, pick one up. Gerber's USA made fixed blades are still pretty decent.

have one of the half serrated normal versions from years ago. its a cluncky knife but okay for what it is. would rather have that walmart plain edge exclusive. weird shows out of stock at under 18 bucks. then shows in stock at more than double that. walmart is weird sometimes on items on their site.

Like G Scott, I don't have the Prodigy but I have the Strongarm. The Strongarm is worth $50 for sure. Hopefully you snagged the Prodigy for that price.

Good deal. Picked one up for a friend in the CoastGuard. The only comparable model at that price is the BG Ultimate Survival Pro which is at Menards. Both cheaper than the Strongarm.

Go for it dude! I've already presented my opinions on Gerber in general in an earlier thread, but I think that the Prodigy will probably serve you well. The only downside that I can see is that the handle may be 'rubberized,' which has questionable value when you are batoning. Have fun with it though! :)

Necropost alert!

I've read several places that the Walmart plain edge Prodigy is discontinued, but a significant number of Walmarts still have a few in stock if you check at about $50.

It's a good general purpose knife that isn't going to break your wallet and it's also not going to break period. It doesn't really excel at any one thing, but if you need something that is relatively inexpensive that can tolerate some abuse and still cut stuff, it's a reasonable option.
