Warm socks recommendations

I'm trying to save on utility bills by not turning on the central heating system so I'm currently only using a portable heater in my house. My feet gets pretty cold at times and my regular hanes socks aren't cutting it anymore.

Can someone recommend an excellent pair of warm socks that will not itch? I will primarily be using this for indoors and outdoors. I prefer black but the color does not matter too much compared to how warm it will keep me. I am looking to spend as much as it takes to keep my feet warm so I have no specific price range, just looking for some high quality socks.

Also, are there any recommendations for the girlfriend too? Her feet gets colder than mine. Thanks in advance and stay safe out there.

Smartwool socks are the best I've ever used, but they are pricey.

Remember the old adage...If your feet are cold put on a hat.

Another vote for Smartwool. I work on my feet and am very active, these socks last typically 2 years for me.
Their is no itch with these caused by the wool and they have superior wicking properties.

Smartwool is good. But there are a lot of good wool socks out there. I actually find good ones at a local flea market for $5 for 3 pair.

The key (for me) is to wear a thin, poly liner under the wool to wick away moisture and provide even more warmth. This two-layer approach also eliminates any itching issues.

Warmest sock I got are some Wigwam wool socks. Very soft and cushion-y. My only complaint is that the elastic at the tiop doesn't hold them up for long on those blustery days.

I can tell you don't live up here where it has been around -40 all week!!!
For in the house have you thought about the shoe style thermo inserts? They work as a low rider sock and can just be slipped into boots. I know we used them when I was a kid but don't know of current models.
BTW how cold does it get for you, very extreme cold weather socks may be counterproductive as you may sweat too much (but then I have furnace feet).

Another + for Thorlos I use the Trekking sox IIRC 39%wool the rest thorlon .
Im very hard on all my foot wear and sox , Thorlos are durable and seem to keep my feet warm.

SMARTWOOL:thumbup:

I have always had cold hands and feet - often ieven in the summer. I've literally tried every sock on the open market...what I've started to notice is my feet sweat at an alarming rate causing me to swap out socks several times per day to stay warm. I put on a pair and then within a few hours my feet would be cold from the dampness of the sock.

So, I started wearing a poly liner under my wool socks - by the way Smartwool are excellent socks and typically wear them. The poly liner pushes the moisture away from my feet and the wool sock is damp but my feet stayed more comfortable and drier. It wasn't perfect but a significant improvement over just a wool sock only.

But recently I discovered if I wear the Danner Wool socks with the coolmax woven into the toes and heels then I don't need a liner and my feet (for the first time ever) are actually staying warm all day long - without the bulk of heavy wool socks and/or liners.

The coolmax material pushes the moisture away from my feet and into the liner of the boot. I've noticed my feet stay at a constant (warm) temp and at the end of the day the dampness (and smell) of the sock is much better. YMMV - something to ponder anyway!

Check Walmart - they have lines of thick merino wool socks and mixes for hiking, work etc. that are very affordable.
