I am getting my new grinder soon and trying to pick out my motor.

I have looked at both Wash-down and Farm Duty motors. Can anyone tell me the difference and will either or be fine to run my new grinder?

I will be buying a 2HP 3 phase and will be run on a VFD.

I would think both would do just fine, but I have to ask:(:D

Thanks in advance for any input/advice:thumbup:

The "farm duty " is a bit of a made up classification.

Wash-down is waterproof. and probably more expensive.

As long as the farm duty is TEFC Totally enclosed fan cooled, with continuous duty rating you should be OK

Thanks bud!

Main reason I asked was I saw a nice shiny SS Baldor Wash-down and had me thinking damn that would look nice....LOL

All of my Leesons are TEFC and thats what I will be going for on my next motor...just more HP:D

Thanks for your input!

Dido what Mike said. Another great refrence for these motors was given by Rob of (KMG fame) when I asked about the quailty of the Lesson, Farm Duty motors for my grinder right here on this forum last year.
As for Farm Duty being a made up catagory. If you have ever worked on a farm where these motors are used on grain augers and such you would understand it is not a made up catagory. Sometimes these motors run all day and are subjected to extremely dirty and tough conditions!

Thanks again, Guys!

I have two Leeson TEFC motors right now...a 1HP and 1.5HP. Both single phase though. Both great motors, so I would have to agree. I just saw two different types and had to ask:thumbup:

Anyone have a 2HP 3 phase TEFC they would trade for a 1HP single phase TEFC Leeson?:D

Thanks for the help guys.

yes...the question has been answered well.

"Wash Down" is another level of sealing the motor from contaminants. They are common in the food processing industry where everything gets sprayed down at the end of the shift....hence the name "wash down"....and the stainless steel enclosure.

"Farm Duty" is a marketing name. Leeson's farm duty motors are brutally tough and overkill for belt grinders. Yep, that why we like them so much!

Chris, Congrats on your soon-to-be new grinder!

LOL......I had to learn this the hard way starting off with an underpowered grinder. It has got me this far, so I cant complain too much.

But I am ready to step up into the big league and have more power than I could ever need....Is this possible?.....:DLOL:D

Thanks for your reply, Rob.
