I need a good watch for my EDC. I have tool but I would like some class to it as well. I like the way pretty much any diver watch looks, im looking for suggestions on brand, good bargain, what type, etc. Please share your favorites.

I'm a fan of the Seiko skx007 & skx009 as far as good brand, and good bargain goes. I like mechanical watches as opposed to quartz and these 2 are pretty much kings of bang for buck for mechanical watches. They look great, the two I have keep great time and are quite rugged.

You didn’t say if you want auto or quartz.

Seiko makes some good ones for decent prices.

I prefer Squale 20 atmos or a Steinhart Ocean 1 to the seiko’s. Can get the o1 in 39 and 44mm sizes. The squale is 40mm. Or go for the big boy. Rolex submariner. The squale and steiny both use eta 2824-2 movements.

As far as quartz, I love the st moritz momentum line.

Here is the squale, steinhart and submariner. The squale has a beefier case and lugs. The photo exaggerated the difference in size. The sub is a 1995 model. New ceramic ones are beefier. The steinhart is a ceramic bezel. They do not make an aluminum bezel in the 39mm and 44 is too big for me. The aluminum reads easier but also scratches easier. The sub is showing it’s age as seen by the slight yellowing of the index markers. I still won’t trade it. I like the slimmer 16610 models.

Yeah another vote for the Steinhart also, I've never owned the Rolex or Squale but plan on trying out a Squale sometime soon. I have the Steinhart ocean one Ti premium with the eta 2892-A2 movement and it has gained 0.2 seconds in the past 27 days. The Seiko skx's can't compete with that but they're also a third of the price. Nice comparison pic too.

Nice O1. If only my wrists weren’t so small lol! I like the little color splash of the blue on the face.

I wear a first generation Seiko Orange Monster every day, and it's a great relatively inexpensive dive watch. The Monster line has been going strong for over a decade, with many options and variations available.

I'm not a watch guy, but I've always heard that the Monster's bracelet punches well above its price point, and I can attest that it is incredibly comfortable to wear, even for extended periods.

Here is the problem that I have is that I can't decide weather or not I want an auto or a quartz. They both have their ups and downs and I wouldn't have a preference for either one.

Quartz are def cheaper. But mechanicals are more fun to own. Like knives. A spyderco is a great knife, and will cut anything just as well as a sebenza, but boy does the sebenza feel better doing it. Lol. Many people claim “well mechanicals never need a battery” and, while true, they need maintenance also. Clean and lube ever 5-10 years or so. Or ditch and buy another lol.

Invicta makes some decent budget autos, I also like the vintage railroad approved Bulovas

A lot of it (like most 'accessories') will depend on your budget.

Some nice ones already mentioned here.

From a practical standpoint, if you're looking at analog watches, for me I like quartz, as I tend to rotate watches, and the quartz is just easier as it keeps ticking away if I don't wear it for a few days.

I also prefer watches with actual numbers on their faces (all 12 if I can get it)...I find them MUCH easier to read, especially on the run.

I think overall, bang for the buck, Victorinox offers some very nice watches. The INOX, with divers as well, looks good and is about bomb proof (literally). Standard INOX left in top picture.

Some of the Deep Blue line seem nice for what they are.

If you want to go a little higher, Tag Heuer has some nice ones, and is a recognized 'Brand' with some status.

I just lucked into a Marathon TSAR (center below), and REALLY like it...this one may take over most of my 'personal time' when I'm not going someplace where I'll take it off (like the gym).

Oh, and FWIW, unless you're really stuck on the 'Analog Diver' Suunto makes some really nice digital watches...the negative (dark) display is distinctive.

Plenty to choose from out there.

Have fun.

I have a small watch collection from many years ago. I got really tired of changing the batteries. I picked up two Citizen Eco Drives about 20 and 15 years ago (respectively). I love the look and they are still going strong today.

My favorite of the two is the Blue Angels Chronograph with the SS band.

I can't argue with any of the above. I'll add Bernhardt. Several dive watches in their line, mostly auto, one quartz. US company, buy direct, fantastic customer service. Affordable and your buddy doesn't have one.

For a quartz watch (battery powered), I like the Casio Ediface which is available with several band styles. Price runs around $100-$150 depending on the band selected when I bought mine. It is a very good looking watch and sufficiently dressy for me. I'd love a couple of these more expensive watches mentioned, but generally speaking they are beyond my willingness to spend when I can get a Casio that keeps very good time. For a while, I was going to get a mechanical watch.... changed my mind as it simply wasn't needed.

Added: I like these more expensive watches. But I know that I wouldn't wear it except for dress and I seldom dress up any more. I wear a watch all the time. It's one of my edc items along other things. Don't like looking at a cell phone for the "time". So, I wanted to give you perhaps a different option.

If you like dive watches, Deep Blues are a very good alternative to Seiko and a good value when on sale. They use either Citizen or Seiko movements, and they typically have a sale around BF.

I have the cheapest of all Timex indiglo field watches and it's battery has outlasted multiple other watches (Seiko, Tag Heur, Luminox) and it just to prove the saying; keeps on ticking.

It's the watch I wear when I'm working in the woods and don't want to risk dinging the crystal on one of the more expensive ones.

One of the things I worry about IF I purchased what I consider an expensive watch (like ~$500) is durability. I'm just used to wearing them and doing whatever I normally do with them on. Maybe someone can relate their experience with say a Steinhart branded one.
